    Episode 11: Bernie Cox

From his childhood in Jacksonville to becoming the 4th all-time winning high school football coach in Arkansas history, we hear from 7-time state champion Bernie Cox. Cox coached nationally prestigious Little Rock Central as an assistant from 1972-74 and then took over as head coach from 1975-2009 winning 271 games. Though he achieved elite success, he is quick to point the reasoning to the loyalty on his coaching staff, the buy-in to the football program from other athletic departments, and of course the multitude of talented players that he coached including Houston Nutt, Marcus Elliot, and many others.

This podcast reminds me of sitting around a fire outside listening to my grandpa tell stories of his time in high school and instantly takes me back to those moments. Kyle has the ability to ask the right questions at the right time, lead when he needs, and follow when it’s required, allowing for a pleasing rhythm to his podcast. This podcast combines history and sports in a way that I never thought imaginable, and I can’t wait for the future episodes!

I was so fortunate to have played for Coach at Corning. My class got to win his 1st Championship in 1976. We rep’d plays not to get it right but to make sure we could not get it wrong.
As great a Coach as he was, he was a better at being a Christian leader!! He led a tremendous amount of knuckle headed boys to a life in Christ.
We Love this man !!
