    Episode 93: Hurricane Season

    Episode 93: Hurricane Season

    August in Louisiana can mean a lot of things to different people, but something we probably all agree on is it definitely means hurricane season. Hurricane Ida just hit southeast Louisiana, and more storms are brewing in the Gulf. So we thought it important to share tips about preparing for and facing what comes this season.

    In this episode you'll hear:
    tips about what to do as a hurricane is approaching: freeze water bottles, charge your phones, pick up outdoor furniture and toys;
    reminders for during the hurricane, if you're riding it out: don't play with the flashlights, turn off the A/C;
    what to do after the storm passes: document any damage by taking photos, have board games and UNO at the ready, do not drive through flooding.

    Episode 92: Do you e-learn?

    Episode 92: Do you e-learn?

    This week on the Homestyle podcast we're looking for inspiration for our crafts and cooking, and even our day jobs, so we turn to the internet, of course. And we're not the only ones. The e-learning industry, especially on mobile devices, has been booming through the pandemic — to the tune of billions of dollars.

    In this episode you'll hear:
    some of our favorite YouTube channels, streaming shows and Pinterest boards where we find everything from recipes to lesson plans;
    how much growth this industry has seen, stats included;
    and places to look for inspiration for your next project or hobby.

    Episode 91: Upcycling Through Crafting

    Episode 91: Upcycling Through Crafting

    It's the first week of school, and we're tapped out — financially, physically, emotionally, all the ways. So rather than go out and find a new project or new materials to buy, why not take what you've got lying around at home and make them into something new and improved? Let's upcycle this week on the Homestyle podcast.

    In this episode you'll hear:
    ideas big and small for turning your "trash" into something usable, from toilet paper rolls turned party favors to old towels and baby clothes made braided into baskets and rugs;
    how to make planters out of tin cans, plastic 2-liter bottles and egg cartons;
    what to do with old belts — new purse, anyone?
    and why all of this matters to you, me and the environment.

    What have you taken and given new life? What materials did you use? Share your experience (and photos!) in The Homestyle Podcast Facebook group or @Homestylepod on Instagram and Twitter.

    Episode 90: Ready for Resin

    Episode 90: Ready for Resin

    We've been talking a lot about food and cooking lately, so to keep one of our co-hosts from feeling left out, we pivoted to a craft topic for this week's episode of the Homestyle podcast.

    In this episode you'll hear:
    Leigh tells Joe all about a new craft idea she's been researching — resin — and its versatility to create jewelry, serving trays and unique paper weights;
    what's got her so interested in resin;
    and tips on where to find supplies, like molds, dyes, pressed flowers and even kits to get you started more easily.

    Have you tried a resin craft? Share your experience (with photos!) in The Homestyle Podcast Facebook group and or at @Homestylepod on Instagram and Twitter.

An easy listen, which is so important when the world around us is so challenging.
Listening to Leigh and Joe feels like sitting down with a couple of friends for coffee.

The latest podcast, episode 48 with guest Alex Johnson (PoeticSoul) was so inspiring!
