By request, this topic is both very interesting and very difficult to address for all of the female athletes out there. Studies show that "the female sex steroid hormones estrogen and progesterone have potential effects on exercise capacity and performance..." on top of the very big grain of salt that is bio-individuality. We can study these hormones and learn clinical evidence about how they work and how they may work for or against the female athlete demographic but keeping in mind their unique biochemistry, metabolism, etc. is paramount.
