Gospel Sexuality (1 Cor. 6:9-20)
Big Idea: The gospel of Jesus qualifies us and motivates us to pursue sexual integrity for God’s glory.
Sexual integrity matters because . . .
1. God has qualified us for his kingdom (6:9-11)
2. Our bodies have become one with Christ’s body (6:12-17)
3. Our bodies have become temples of the Holy Spirit (6:18-20) -
Brokenness (Gen. 2:15-17, 3:1-7; Rom 1:18-32)
Big Idea: We all experience sexual brokenness because of our fall into sin
1. We rejected the Creator and his design (Gen. 3:1-7; Rom. 1:18-25)
2. God gave us up to our desires (Rom. 1:26-32)
3. But, God isn’t done with us . . . (Rom. 2:3-4) -
God's Design for Gender and Sexuality (Gen 1:26-31; 2:28-25)
Big Idea: God’s design at creation for human gender and sexuality is good and timeless
1. Above all he created, God called his creation of humanity very good (Gen. 1:31)
2. God created humans in two distinct, yet complementary sexes (Gen. 1:27)
3. God created marriage as a permanent, covenant union between two people of opposite sexes (Gen. 1:28; 2:24) -
Jesus is The Resurrection and The Life (John 11:1-44)
Big Idea: Jesus is the life who has the power over death for all who believe
1. “Lazarus’ death will reveal my glory” (John 11:1-16)
2. “I am the resurrection and the life” (John 11:17-27)
3. “I hate death!” (John 11:28-37)
4. “Lazarus, come out” (John 11:38-44) -
Jesus is Our Substitute (Isaiah 52:13-53:12)
Big Idea: At the cross, Jesus suffered as our substitute to save us
1. He felt the depths of our sorrow (Isaiah 53:1-3)
2. He paid the pentalty for our sin (Isaiah 53:4-6)
3. He accepted the apex of injustice (Isaiah 53:7-9)
4. He enjoys the satisfaction of our salvation (Isaiah 53:10-12) -
The Cross Is Our Victory (Colossians 2:14-15)
Big Idea: At the cross, Jesus turns our shame into our victory
1. Our debt is destroyed (Col 2:14)
2. Our captors are taken captive (Col 2:15)
