    Episode 182: Oppenheimer

    Episode 182: Oppenheimer

As we close up shop on Season 7, we could not leave without talking about arguably the biggest movie of 2023. With 7 Oscars and an unfathomable amount of other prestigious awards, Oppenheimer is a once in a lifetime opportunity (or Oppentunity, if you will.) Christopher Nolan has finally unleashed Cillian Murphy to his fullest potentials, and Nolan's directing capabilities and Murphy's acting powers are both truly staggering. While 2023 was an amazing year for films, there was none better than this cautionary tale about the horrors we face and the guilt we carry regarding nuclear war. So put on your wide brimmed hat and light up that cigarette as we discuss this absolute masterpiece. We'll also reminisce over Barbenheimer, deliberate on virtual international disarmament in Metal Gear Solid V: The Phantom Pain, break down the ad sponsored collapsible room for American schools, and a ton (20,000 tons, to be precise) more. And we'll give you the rundown on upcoming bonus episodes in our off season, our thoughts on the 2024 Oscars, and a note about when to look for Season 8.

Thank you so, so much for making this season a truly fantastic one!

Oppenheimer stars Cillian Murphy, Emily Blunt, Matt Damon, Robert Downey Jr., Florence Pugh, Benny Safdie, Michael Angarano, Josh Hartnett, Rami Malek, Kenneth Branagh, Dane DeHaan, Dylan Arnold, David Krumholtz, Alden Ehrenreich, Matthew Modine, Gary Oldman, Alex Wolff, Casey Affleck, Jack Quaid, Emma Dumont, Matthias Schweighöfer, David Dastmalchian, Christopher Denham, Josh Peck, Tony Goldwyn, Olivia Thirlby, and James Remar. Directed by Christopher Nolan.

    Episode 181: Shin Godzilla

    Episode 181: Shin Godzilla

Before Minus One got all the love and admiration it so rightfully deserved, there was another Godzilla movie not so long ago that really stomped its way into the hearts of millions. So after 180 episodes of the show, we're finally discussing the one, the only, the King of the Monsters (but not that movie.) We're of course talking about Godzilla, but not just any Godzilla movie; it's the 2016 masterclass in satire that is Shin Godzilla. What would it look like from a bureaucratic standpoint to actually try and stop a kaiju attack? This film shows exactly how it would (probably) go down. But that's not to say it doesn't have some incredibly shocking and horrific imagery that any kaiju lover would be sure to appreciate. So prepare your uniform and make sure your ramen doesn't get soggy as we talk about that truly wild face reveal of Gojira, plus the sensual world of commemorative popcorn buckets, the United States edging with its nuclear weapons, and creating a kaiju just for America. All of that and more with returning guests Michael Moss and JT Kelly, plus we'll spin the wheel to decide which film will have the honor of being our Season 7 finale episode next week.

Shin Godzilla stars Hiroki Hasegawa, Mikako Ichikawa, Satomi Ishihara, Yutaka Takenouchi, Kengo Kora, Matsuo Satoru, Kazuo Takahashi, and Kanji Tsuda. Directed by Hideaki Anno and Shinji Higuchi.

    Episode 180: Totally Killer

    Episode 180: Totally Killer

Like, we're totally diving into the radical '80s this week as we're talking all about the dark comedy slasher Totally Killer from last year. This one's, like, totally got it all: tubular time travel, snappy dialogue, and a rockin' soundtrack. So grab your Aqua Net and some bottom shelf booze as we kick off Women's History Month talking about how these women kick ass. Plus, Roger Ebert giving his ratings from the afterlife, the duality of short shorts and Saving Private Ryan, slander against Smarties, and hell of a lot more await you in the killer episode. God, the '80s were wild.

Totally Killer stars Kiernan Shipka, Olivia Holt, and Julie Bowen. Directed by Nahnatchka Khan.

Episode 179: Judas and the Black Messiah

Episode 179: Judas and the Black Messiah

We couldn't let Black History Month end without discussing not only one of the best movies about Black history, but one of the best movies of the decade. While 2021's Judas and the Black Messiah indeed got the praise it was due at the Academy Awards, we still feel as if it hasn't gotten the admiration it deserves. So put on your shades and adjust that beret as we talk about the incredible performances from absolutely everyone in this movie, plus Florida schools banning the dictionary (yes, seriously), AI Nancy Pelosi, burying our dreams of ever receiving X-Men powers, and much, much more with returning guests Brandi Dewberry and Jenn Paulemon! And remember: anywhere there is people, there is power.

Judas and the Black Messiah stars Daniel Kaluuya, LaKeith Stanfield, Jesse Plemons, Dominique Fishback, Ashton Sanders, Algee Smith, Graham Lutes, Martin Sheen, and Lil Rel Howery. Directed by Shaka King.

    Episode 178: Stay Alive

    Episode 178: Stay Alive

Well, it's been two weeks since we've discussed a video game movie, so time to do another one. But this time, there's a twist: if you die in the game, you die for real! That's right, of course we're talking about none other than 2006's Stay Alive, and boy, would we like to find whoever made it and hurt them (not really – that’s just a quote from the movie.) Technically Disney's only slasher, this movie is capital B Bonkers. Insane plot contrivances, absurd character motivations, bizarre fashion choices, and god awful visual effects are enough to put this one up there with some of the worst films we've ever covered. So strap on your arm brace and turn that visor upside down as we discuss the film as well as check in on CanYouStayAlive.com, discovering some incredible fanfiction for the movie, and of course, deducing who the real villain was all along (cough Abigail cough). All of that and a hell of a lot more with special guest Brian Cottington of The Cinema Psychos Show. Let's butter this muffin!

You can check out The Cinema Psychos Show on Apple Podcasts or wherever get your podcasts.

Stay Alive stars Jon Foster, Samaire Armstrong, Frankie Muniz, Jimmi Simpson, Milo Ventimiglia, Sophia Bush, and Adam Goldberg. Directed by William Brent Bell.

Episode 177: In the Mouth of Madness

Episode 177: In the Mouth of Madness

This episode is going to drive people absolutely mad! It's the week of Valentine's Day, and you know what that means: it's time to celebrate John Carpenter's utterly bleak view of the world. Or at least that's how we celebrate it around here. We're talking 1994's In the Mouth of Madness this week, and prepare yourself now because this one gets dark. Can we find a silver lining at the end of the world? We'll do our best. So handcuff your naked husband to your foot and light one up as we talk about everything from the K-Mart version of Metallica's Enter Sandman to soft corn porn (you read that right) and everything in between. God's not supposed to be a hack podcaster, but we are.

In the Mouth of Madness stars Jurgen Prochnow, Sam Neill, Julie Carmen, and Charlton Heston. Directed by John Carpenter.

Birdemic

So for like 10 episodes I thought every time y’all said Birdemic, you were talking about Bird Box.
Cuz it’s like a pandemic with birds in the title.
And I laughed to myself every time bc I was like that’s clever and kinda dumb cuz birds are in that for like 10 seconds. It was like my favorite recurring bit.
Anyway, I’m Steph and I’m a douche and I love this podcast.

Glad I found this

I discovered this show swiping through all the tik tok nonsense and it was the Terminator episode which I find weird that up until now 2023 it’s being reviewed, any who. Been hooked ever since! Every episode cracks me up, great hosts and keep the guest hosts coming. Please don’t change a thing, everything works!!!
