NOUN

1. a speech or written passage composed in commemoration of a dead person

2. a final judgment on a person or thing

Epitaph is a bi-weekly, paranormal podcast dedicated to doing more than just sharing ghost stories and lore. We follow the ghosts back to the where their stories began.

We will share the legends, but we will also dig deep into the historical record -- newspaper archives, genealogical records, and other primary source documents -- to find out just who these ghosts were before, steal a glimpse into their lives and, then, share their stories with you.

We will try to discover how they died, what things they may have left unfinished, and how their stories fit within the legends they've become.

And maybe, by telling their stories, we can help them finally find rest.

Bela Kiss, the Vampire of Czinkota

Except that, even after his supposed death, Bela Kiss continued to be seen and continued to remain one step ahead of capture for the next three decades.

    The Vampires of Eastern Europe

    The Vampires of Eastern Europe

The most common place to encounter a vampire today is in the Young Adult Fiction section of your local bookstore, or in the movies and television shows that are inspired by these novels. But, to the peoples of southeastern Europe, where the dead have long been believed to have the ability to harm living, the vampire is something far more serious.

In this episode, we will explore the stories -- well-documented by historians, priests and surgeons -- of three men from the 17th and 18th centuries who lives, and whose continued appearances after death, were the inspiration for much of what we believe about vampires today.

Resurrection Mary, Part 2: Mary Bregovy

Resurrection Mary is one of Chicago's most famous ghosts and, over the years, a number of "candidates" have been put to answer the question: Who was she?

Mary Bregovy, like the girl in the Resurrection Mary legend, had lived on Damen Avenue and had died in an automobile accident in the 1930s. But, despite people who knew her while she was alive having reported seeing her on Archer Avenue after her death, Mary Bregovy didn't look like the girl who is normally described in Resurrection Mary sightings.

On this episode, we discuss how she fits into the Resurrection Mary legend.

Interesting mix of legend and history

Not your average paranormal podcast. Rather than just telling stories skimmed from the internet, this podcast’s stories are extensively researched to try to match up where the ghost stories intertwine with real, verifiable history. An interesting, fresh take. Worth listening to.

Thoroughly enjoyable

I happened upon this at a suggestion from a friend. I’m so glad I did! Listened start to finish on one sitting. You can’t miss how thoroughly researched the stories are, and this translates into feeing you are right there with the characters. The story telling is impeccable. Again, there’s no mistaking how much time and effort has been put into presenting these stories in so that the listener is as entertained and she is educated. Can’t wait for more!
