Life is a Sales Call with Tom Hannigan, President, Americas - ServiceNow

Welcome to Cut Through the Noise, bringing you the truth behind the headlines in business and current events, Hosted by Dave Turano 'When I got out of college, the job market was horrendous and I didn't know what I wanted to do. For a year, I applied to every job on the planet and saved up a stack of rejection letters from all off them' So what did Tom Hannigan and his Criminal Justice degree do after he graduated from St. Anselm College? He worked in a warehouse, and then as a security guard, and finally as a claims adjuster. A few years later, his buddy got him an interview at EMC for a sales job. Tom had not heard of EMC at at the time, but he took the interview anyway. And? He fell short... His buddy shared the following feedback when it was over... 'They said you were pretty mediocre...'  Thankfully for Tom, EMC gave him a second chance. 'I was at the right place at the right time and blessed to be molded by them' Tom put in the work and rose through the ranks at EMC for the next 16 years.  Today, he sits atop ServiceNow Americas - a company that he's watched grow from $400 Million and 1000 employees to $10 Billion and 23,000 employees since he joined ten years ago. How? 'We have the best people and the best people always win' Listen to this upbeat conversation about having fun with people that you like and trust. 'Nothing ever came easy to me. I wasn't a great athlete nor the best student, but I've always loved being part of a team.'  Tom Hannigan found his dream job  And he'd be the first one to tell you that he got it with a little help from his friends.  This episode drops on 5/28.  Apple Podcasts:  https://podcasts.apple.com/us/podcast/cut-through-the-noise-with-dave-turano/id1466812912 Spotify:  https://open.spotify.com/show/5KrU7tS8QMSpgYiMAtxByV?si=dcd88d8e429449e0 Amazon Music:   @servicenow @dell @stanselmscollege #emc #ai #businesstransformation #selling #hiring #onboarding #relationships #people #friends #fun #hardwork #preparation #golf #braintree #data #capecod #warehouse #claimsadjuster @libertymutual

Creating a Future Ready Organization with Andrea Petrone

Andrea Petrone is a Human Performance & Leadership Advisor for Executives & their teams. He is also an International Speaker and Host of 'The World Class Leaders Show,' which can be found on Apple Podcasts, Spotify and Amazon Music. In 2019, after 35 years as a leader in the Oil & Gas industry, Andrea decided to launch his own consulting practice to help organizations develop more human-centric leaders. During a recent conversation, Andrea and I talked about how the mindset of a leader impacts the performance of a team. He shared stories on why some organizations struggle to develop leaders from within. We contrasted employee empowerment with the discharge of responsibility to people that don't know what to do. We also explored how social dynamics shape the virus-like quality of a company culture. If you want to know could get in the way of the future-readiness of your organization... Listen to what Andrea has to say next Tuesday!

    Consequential Thinking with Renee Viens

    Consequential Thinking with Renee Viens

Like many children born into military families, Renee Viens moved a lot when she was a child. After her parents divorced when she was thirteen, Renee stepped up to help her Mom. If something needed to get done - she figured it out. 'I was a little Mom' Renee became an adult an early age; taking on housekeeping duties, meal prep and caring for her younger sister. Renee learned the value of anticipation, risk management and consequential thinking well before she went to college. These same skills still serve her today as an Executive Assistant, Coach and Mentor.   'I've made art form out of living around other people for their convenience,' as a behind the scenes support system, organizer and copilot, which is why she is able to successfully support many talented professionals of all levels as they navigate their careers. 'Executive Assistants put so much into the things that we do - We are our jobs. We are kind of married to our work - The people we support are always in our brain.' Please take the time to listen to Renee's insights on mentorship, coaching and what it is like to be inside the mind of an Executive. She was put here to do this work! https://reneeviens.com/

Mental Health and the Modern Dad with Liam Martin

Mental Health and the Modern Dad with Liam Martin

Welcome to Cut Through the Noise, bringing you the truth behind the headlines in business and current events, Hosted by Dave Turano. Not many people have the courage to walk away from the security of a great job, especially when they love what they do. But that's s exactly what Liam Martin did. After fifteen years in broadcast television; the last four as morning anchor at WBZ Boston; Liam said goodbye to explore a new venture in the private sector. Martin partnered up with Jackie Bruno and Rachel Robbins at Newsmaker Marketing; a Public Relations firm that helps its clients tell their stories through video, social media marketing, and by helping them to get hits on the news! It's been six weeks since he made the announcement and he has no regrets at all! 'What it really boiled down to was my mental health, and wanting to be the husband and dad that I want to be,' is what Liam expressed to me when I asked him why he decided to do this. About a year into working the morning shift, he knew something wasn't right... Getting up at 2:15 AM each day was taking a toll on him...fog-brain, depression, and anxiety had set in, only exacerbating some of the mental health challenges that he had experienced as a child. Thankfully, with the support of his family, friends and regular therapy, he is working to incorporate several routines that have helped him to feel a little better. You can hear what Liam's routines are by subscribing to Cut Through the Noise on Apple Podcasts, Amazon Music or YouTube. Hope you enjoy this conversation. I know that I did! The Extroverted CFO and the Founder Mentality with Scott Dussault

The Extroverted CFO and the Founder Mentality with Scott Dussault

Long time friend & fellow Stonehill College grad, Scott Dussault, joined me this week to talk start-ups, technology, people, communication and phony phone calls! Scott has more than two decades of operational and financial leadership experience, and a track record of success in both public and private technology companies.   Scott kicked off his career at E&Y and then quickly transitioned into a CFO at companies like Storage Networks, Archivas, Demandware, Nasuni and Workhuman.  For the last seven years Scott has advised entrepreneurs and start-ups in the tech sector by leveraging a unique blend of people skills, operational excellence and creativity to get them to the next stage of growth. Scott received his Bachelor of Science in Accounting from Stonehill College and was presented with the Gold Medal by the Massachusetts Board of Public Accountancy for receiving the highest score in the state in the May 1993 CPA exam. From childhood to present day, Scott has a laundry list of impressive accomplishments, but when all is said and done, he is likely to go down in history as the greatest prank phone caller of all time! This was a fun conversation!

Salespeople Forgot How to Sell - with Kortney Harmon

Salespeople Forgot How to Sell - with Kortney Harmon

Anyone remember the 'The Island of Misfit Toys' from the animated Christmas special, 'Rudolph the Red-nosed Reindeer'? It was a place that an unwanted toy was sent if a child didn't want to play with it... 'Charlie' in the box, the spotted elephant, and the water pistol that shot jelly were just three of many toys that were relegated to the island. If that special were made in 2024, I would imagine that the cast might have included 'Salespeople that forgot how to sell!' Bad joke... Thank you to Kortney Harmon, with Crelate, for a fun conversation about sales, recruiting and the importance of having a PROCESS! The mood of the staffing industry is somewhat flat these days  A number of companies have reported that business is down between 15-30%! Why???   Lot's of reasons - Poor leadership and lack of process are two of them! Kortney shared a number of great ideas on how to drive engagement, consistency and confidence into sales and recruiting teams in the current environment Hope you enjoy!
