In Episode 3, we’re exploring friendship from a kid’s eye view. Have you ever seen your child walk up to a kid they’ve never met before on the playground and spend the whole day together like old friends? Children seem hardwired to create these instant, easy friendships, but for a lot of grownups, making friends doesn’t come so easily. In our quest to reconnect with the pure approach to friendship we see in kids, we talked to two guests with interesting perspectives on the topic: Karen Johnson, a writer and mother of three, and Eileen Kennedy-Moore, PhD, author, and clinical psychologist.

Episode 2 is all about the incredible things adults can achieve when we reconnect with the creativity that comes so naturally in childhood — the sense of pure possibility that seems to become diluted as we age. We’re looking to kids for creative guidance as we tap back into the vibrant imaginations and sense of play that fills and fuels childhood. To help us explore this unadulterated creativity, we talked to Danielle Krysa, an artist, author, blogger, graphic designer, and mom, and Tom Sturges, a music executive, author, teacher, and father.

    Put On a Brave Face

    Put On a Brave Face

In Episode 1, we’re looking at the many ways children can teach us to be more fearless as adults. Whether they’re encouraging us to take a literal leap on a flying trapeze or motivating us to follow our dreams, kids seem to possess a unique and unadulterated type of bravery. So where does that pure courageousness go as we age? And how can we reclaim it as adults? To find out, we talked to Corey Wheeland, a marketer, graphic designer, author and mom, and Dr. Cynthia Pury, a professor of psychology at Clemson University.

Really insightful and useful

Not only is the topic something that resonates today, but I really liked the new and practical ideas to try with myself and my family. It seemed new and fresh with suggestions I hadn’t heard before. A fast listen....looking forward to more episodes!

Slate’s Hypocrisy

This podcast is a wonderful marketing vehicle for Dairy Pure, a brand of Dean Foods, the nation’s largest dairy producer and a multi-billion dollar conglomerate. And that’s fine if you’re pro big business, corporate lobbying, and corporate financing of republican congressmen. But I’m guessing the progressive, anti-corporate, socialist Slate readership doesn’t support this. I’m guessing they support local farmers and small, independent dairies. No worries. Ignore the cognitive dissonance. Here’s a free podcast about how delightful children are, sponsored by Dean Foods, whose shareholders believe your delightful children need to consume more milk. Slate thanks you for listening.
