Rapper, composer, producer, host and all around amazing person, Hua Li talks about everything. The recording should have started 15 mins earlier but once we started talking it was hard to stop. Thankfully we remembered to hit record and got to make one of the most fun and tangential episodes yet. From music production to our mutual love for Tigerbelly (specifically Khalyla), and a whole discussion on the need for more Canadian late night TV, we didn't miss a topic (and if we did, we already plan on doing another episode soon). Enjoy, and follow Hua Li on all her socials.

From growing up in Uptown, Montreal, to films with Kevin Hart, Teneisha Collins is a Montreal actor, who has been representing her city since day one. This episode of NAJ was a chance for me to catch up with an elementary school friend and brag about how awesome their glow-up (or more accurately their consistent glow) has been. Relax and take notes while Teneisha discusses her passions, her motivations and the skills she picked up on her journey as a remarkable Canadian actor.

I spoke with Dr. Justin Ross for a second time. Ross is a family doctor who also works for public health. He works primarily with Indigenous populations in isolated Northern Quebec, where resources are quite limited. We tackle the difficulties of dealing with COVID, the vaccine, sending kids back to school and so many other COVID related subjects. Most importantly, why we need more transparency on a government level and in our personal lives.

My first guest of 2021 has a doctorate in Psychology from the University of Texas, has been in practice since 2017 and specializes in a number of fields, most notably,  Anti Oppressive / Justice Oriented Therapy. Please enjoy my conversation with the inspiring, Dr. Han Ren. We discuss, dismantling our ideas around mental health, specifically in communities of colour, understanding what Anti-Racist practices are, exploring internalized white supremacy, and addressing multi-generational trauma and more. Dr. Ren helped me understand concepts I didn't even know to be aware of, and hopefully this conversation will do the same for you.

For those of you who may not know, I live in Montreal, Quebec. A city that was recently put into lockdown due to increased COVID-19 cases. To identify danger zones, the province used a colour coding system, in which the most dangerous areas are marked as RED zones. So... what does the red zone mean? Shut down the stores? Close schools? No, instead Montreal's night life was targeted as the scapegoat for the current spread of COVID in the community. I reached out to a few local business owners and event planners for their thoughts on the 28 days of Red in Montreal. How and why bars were targeted? And most importantly, how to support local businesses during the lockdown that leads into mid fall.

This episode of Not A Journalist, I spoke with
Vincent Stephen-Ong: Montreal-based saxophonist and pianist Vincent Stephen-Ong is the driving force behind the family of projects under the Urban Science umbrella- the #LeCypher hip-hop and soul jam session and the Urban Science Brass Band, hosts of the Montreal Hip-Hop Parade. Vincent is also the founder of the #SaveThePlateau, a movement intended to improve co-existence between vibrant cultural nightlife and local residents.  And in a previous lifetime, Vincent worked as a software developer, and has an artificial intelligence patent to his name.
Visit urbsci.com for more on all thing Urban Science

Michelle Ayoub: The one they call Yeti, she can be spotted behind the scenes or backstage at gigs. Montreal born and raised, over a decade working in the entertainment industry in artist relations, production, logistics, marketing, and once upon a time performing! Currently working as a production manager for Evenko & Greenland, and co-owner of Turbo Haus.

Devin Shanks: Devin Shanks has been working with the public on many platforms for over 22 years. In 2012, after over a decade of working in the sales and consulting industry, he decided to increase his portfolio and completed a bachelor's degree at Concordia University majoring in Sociology with minors in Marketing and Business Management. In 2017 he registered his own events company called Shanks Events & Entertainment with which he has hosted numerous and diverse events from local music shows, to conventions.
Visit shanksevent.ca for more on past and future events.

Richard Hillary: Richard Hillary aka Full Course or just Richy is a staple in the nightlife industry as well as in the Montreal Hip Hop scene. As 1 half of Labnoise Production (Montreal based video production company) he’s produced countless videos for Montreal’s anglophone hip hop artists. With over 20 years of experience in the nightlife and service industry he finally decided to open his own Resto Bar called Local Legend in 2018.
