Decorating the Set (State of the Industry Discussion with Guest, RJ Rappaport)

Welcome to Decorating the Set: From Hollywood to Your Home with Beth Kushnick!  Anyone who watches TV or movies knows that the film industry has been rocked in recent years. By strikes, by decreasing budgets, and by jobs going overseas. To say nothing of a global pandemic. And while we have heard the stories of how celebrities are coping, not nearly enough attention has been paid to the "collateral damage" of these increasingly frequent work stoppages, the below the line workers and third-party vendors that rely on a robust film industry to survive.

As we approach the 1-year anniversary of the start of The Writers Guild of America strike, this week's episode of Decorating the Set takes a look at the state of the industry and how people are getting through “The Great Contraction”.  Joining Beth and Producer Mike is RJ Rappaport, owner of RJR Props in Atlanta, Georgia. Decorating the Set (Interview with Art Director, Kevin Rupnik)

Decorating the Set (Interview with Art Director, Kevin Rupnik)

Welcome to Decorating the Set: From Hollywood to Your Home with Beth Kushnick!  A favorite part of doing this podcast is the chance to sit down with not only long time friends and colleagues, but longtime friends and colleagues who are the best at what they do. And this week, we have a great one. On this week's episode, Beth and Producer Mike sit down with Kevin Rupnik, an Emmy-nominated Art Director who has been working in theater, television and film for 30 plus years, at the highest levels.

The Interview with Kevin begins at Time Code: 16:12

    GUEST BIO: KEVIN RUPNIK

With formal training and experience in theater, opera, television and film, I bring an unusually holistic approach to brand communication and event marketing.  As an Art Director I have designed for The Good Wife, Royal Pains, How to Make it in America, The Sound of Music Live and Masters of Sex, for which I was honored to be nominated for an Emmy in 2014.

Things to know about me: I am an experienced leader with a wicked sense of humor and the belief that work should be fun as well as productive. Being curious is the trait I’m the most proud of. I believe in the transformative power of design. I live in New York but love the tropics and the desert. My dad was a tool-and-die maker and my mother was a beautician. I believe that the key to successful working relationships is mutual respect.

I believe in the POWER of events to shape opinion, inform brand communication, and inspire devotion. As a creative director who can write, and a writer with formal training in design and the theater, I see the BIG PICTURE and am able to manage every step of the process from ideation to production.
