Ep 67: James MacDonald - John o'Groats to Lands End, and Back; RAAM, 24-hr Indoor Attempt

Ep 67: James MacDonald - John o'Groats to Lands End, and Back; RAAM, 24-hr Indoor Attempt

In this episode, we talk with James MacDonald, the only solo Race Across America finisher from Scotland. James reached the finish line of the world's longest non-stop bike race in a time of 11 days and 19 hours to earn 12th place overall in 2016 as a rookie. After this epic test of endurance, James went on to achieve something very special: the Guinness World Records for the fastest N-S-N double crossing of the island of the UK.

In 2017, James rode from John o' Groats down to Lands End and back up to John o' Groats, covering a total distance of 2,711 km (1,684 mi) in a time of 5d 18h to improve the former record by 3 hours.

His latest challenge was to improve the actual 24h indoor track record of 941km, which was set by me in 2017. He was at a very promising pace, found his rhythm, but then he crashed and had to cancel his attempt. Global Cycling Network covered his attempt so you can check it out in more detail!

It will be James' future challenge to give it another try and today we will talk about our experiences in riding the velodrome nonstop for thousands of laps. Let's roll! 🚲💨

Ep 66: Louis-Eric Simard - French Ultra Bikepacker (TransAm, TransCanada, & Race Around Cuba)

After watching the film Inspired to Ride years ago, French-Canadian ultra bikepacker, Louis-Eric Simard, took on the famous Trans Am Bike Race Bike Race, crossing 10 States in the USA, coast-to-coast, self-supported. If that wasn't enough, Louis-Eric is now on to his next big adventures organizing his very own ultra bikepacking events, the Race Around Cuba and the TransCanada Bike Race, which crosses Canada from West to East over 12,500 km (7,767 mi) and climbing 319,000 ft or the equivalent of Mt. Everest 11 times!

Louis-Eric is a successful entrepreneur and technologist, running his own software company and also creating his own bicycling products. And most interestingly one of his favorite ride snacks is crickets! Don't miss this fun and inspiring episode! Let’s roll! 🚲💨

    Ep 64: Dominik Meierhofer - 24-hr World Champion (2021)

    Ep 64: Dominik Meierhofer - 24-hr World Champion (2021)

In this episode, we talk with a very talented ultra racer from Austria, Dominik Meierhofer - Radsportler, who is still very young in terms of ultra cycling, but has achieved some astonishing results. Dominik was the winner of Race Around Austria 1500 km and reached the podium in a couple of 24-hr races and long distance events like the Glocknerman Sprint or the Austrian Championships in ultra cycling.

Recently, Dominik won 1st place overall in the 24h category of the 6-12-24 Hour World Time Trial Championships, which were held as a virtual event this year. For me, personally, this is something very special and maybe one of the toughest things you can do in our sport.

I will ask Dominik about his future plans and about his goals for the years to come. I know that if you have achieved so many athletic feats at Dominik's young age of 26 years old, you can have a very successful future in ultra cycling. Let's roll! 🚲💨
