Episode 85: The Most Exciting Off-season Action for the Habs is...

    In this episode, we discuss...

The NHL playoffs. What is the most and least surprising result so far. The Leafs and Marner. Washington Capitals. Are the Dallas Stars and Winnipeg Jets pretenders?

There are four major things to happen with the Habs this off-season (NHL lottery draft, NHL draft, trades and RFA and UFA signings). Of these four, which are the most exciting?

With Utah officially in the fold, does the off-season dynamic change? If so, how and in which way? The new owner spoke about making a big splash and being big spenders. All talk or is Utah going to be active the way Vegas has since entering the NHL?

An account on X - Denis Pettigrew (@DenisPMtl), recently tweeted an interesting trade scenario involving the Montreal Canadiens 5th overall pick in the 2024 draft (assuming they stay at 5) and San Jose's 4th overall pick in the 2023 NHL draft (Will Smith). Of all of the crazy trade proposals that we have seen on social media, this one was one of the most intriguing ones. While it this trade scenario is unlikely to happen, it is certainly thought inducing and one that piqued our interest enough to talk about it. Credit to him.

Would Dave and Matt like to see the Habs trade for Clayton Keller?

Episode 84: Habs' Post-Season Starts Now

Episode 84: Habs' Post-Season Starts Now

    In this episode, we discuss...

The Habs' 2023-24 season is done. The Canadiens played their 82nd game VS the Detroit Red Wings and lost in the shootout. While their place in the standings is very similar to last year, it was certainly a season full of bright spots. Suzuki, Caufield, Slafkovsky, and Newhook all had career years. The goaltending situation has cleared up and the 3-goalie carousel ended. Lane Hutson and Logan Mailloux both played their first NHL games and produced. and so on. It wasn't all positive though, there were some bumps along the way, Josh Anderson had the worst season of his career, the injury bug hit early by taking Dach out during the second game of the season, Armia was waived and sent down to Laval, Xhekaj was sent down to Laval, Slaf struggled out of the gate. Yet, this was still a progressive season for the Montreal Canadiens. Martin St-Louis extended with the Canadiens for 2 years (3 seasons)

Episode 83: Is Cole Caufield's Season a Disappointment?

Episode 83: Is Cole Caufield's Season a Disappointment?

    In this episode, we discuss...

This season, the Habs have accumulated a lot of points in the standings with their no quit, competitive play. With their most recent victory against the Stanley cup contending Colorado Avalanche. Given where the Habs are at in their rebuild, is it frustrating to see them win VS teams that they "should" lose to? Or are we happy with their compete and progression as a team?

Caufield's game is more well-rounded than it has been in previous seasons. It sems that his more well-rounded style of play is coming at the cost of scoring goals. At the start of the year, projections and expectations were that he would score 40-50 goals. He has not come close to those totals, but his overall game is a lot better, and he is playing at a 65 ppg pace. Were the expectations too high? Is this the best path for him? Is this a disappointing season for him?

Certain members of the media had put out an article with a headline suggesting that Reinbacher is a bust. A bust.... Seriously!? This article came out before his first game with the Laval Rocket and obviously before ever playing an NHL game (training camp excluded). After reading the article, the journalist does not actually state that he is a bust, but that he probably shouldn't have been selected 5th overall and ahead of certain players. We give our thoughts on the article, Reinbacher, his first pro games, and what some scouting pros have said about his game.

Episode 82: Jake Allen Trade, Cap Space, Marchessault a Good Fit?

Episode 82: Jake Allen Trade, Cap Space, Marchessault a Good Fit?

    In this episode, we discuss...

The Habs traded Jake Allen to the New Jersey Devils for a 2025 conditional 3rd round pick and they retained 50% of his salary. Was this a good trade for the Canadiens?

Minnesota pulled their goalie in overtime to ice 4 players. This strategy led to a 4-3 win over the Nashville Predators. This was a risky decision by the Minnesota Wild. If Nashville would've scored, it would have resulted in the Wild losing out on the OT point (aka the loser point). Should more teams do this? Or could this lead to another rule change?

At the moment, the Montreal Canadiens will have about 10 million dollars of cap space at the start of the offseason. Assuming Xhekaj signs a bridge deal (1-2 million), that would leave the have with about 8-9 million dollars. Should they go after players on the UFA market? Could Jonathan Marchessault be a good fit for the Canadiens? Should they wait for the 2025-26 UFA group (a lot of big names - if they don't re-sign), where the Habs will have a lot more cap space available to them.

Episode 81: Montreal Canadiens Trade Deadline 2023-24

    In this episode, we discuss...

Should the Montreal Canadiens qualify Jesse Ylonen or is this his last season with Habs? If they do qualify him, where does he fit?

There are 6-7 players who are currently on the Habs whose names have been circulating as potential trade chips for the year's NHL Trade deadline. We go through each of the names. Using some of the mock trades or suggested packages that were brought up by our fellow Habs fans, we determine whether they make any sense and if they are fair or not.

Episode 80: Is Kirby Dach YOUR 2nd Line Center?

Episode 80: Is Kirby Dach YOUR 2nd Line Center?

    In this episode, we discuss...

We debate whether we have seen enough from Kirby Dach to cement him as the Habs 2nd line center for next year or should Kent Hughes continue to search the market for another center? Since Dach is there, and the Habs are loaded with defensive prospects, have their priorities and focus changed to another position i.e. RW? When Kent Hughes and Jeff Gorton look at their "whiteboard", do they have Suzuki, Caufield, and Slafkovsky penciled in as the automatic 1st line for next year or should they look to continue to improve the 1st line?

For whatever reason there is a contingent of the Montreal Canadiens fanbase that wants Kent Hughes to trade Mike Matheson ASAP. Why is that? Mike Matheson has been good for the Canadiens and is a true professional. Why are some fans so adamant on moving Mike Matheson?
