The Socialism Conference is a four-day conference bringing together hundreds of socialists and radical activists from around the country to take part in discussions about social movements, Marxism, abolition, working-class history, and the debates and strategies for organizing today.
Every year, the Socialism conference aims to be a place where activists can share lessons from their struggles—from the BDS campaign for Palestine to the fight for gender liberation, from strike organizing and support to the struggle to stop the destruction of the planet, the fight against racism, and more.
Socialism 2023 occurred in Chicago over Labor Day weekend, September 1-4. The recordings from the sessions at Socialism 2023 will be released here.

The Means of Reproduction: Abortion, Race and the 1%
Allison Guttu, Stephanie Kollgaard, Brooke Eliazar-Macke, and Molly Stump speak in this session recorded at Socialism 2023. This session was sponsored by National Women's Liberation. National Women's Liberation (NWL) is a multiracial feminist group for women who want to fight male supremacy and gain more freedom for women.
https://womensliberation.org
Is the war on abortion a matter of religious fanaticism? An attack on sexual pleasure? National Women’s Liberation believes these popular arguments don’t go deep enough. Using Jenny Brown’s book Birth Strike, we'll discuss the material, economic and racialized reasons that the capitalist class desperately needs to control reproductive labor.
Editors note: At 8:30 the speakers incorrectly refer to the 1965 Supreme Court Case Griswold v. CT as granting abortion to married couples and it should be birth control.

What and Who is the Ruling Class?
Josh On speaks in this session recorded at Socialism 2023.

This talk will examine the questions of why some people have more power to make important decisions that affect us all, who they are and how they rule today. It will provide an analysis of the structural relations that cement their rule - the market and the state.

Fighting For Our Lives: Abortion and Trans Rights Under Attack
Anne Rumberger and Mary Bowman speak in this session recorded at Socialism 2023. This session was sponsored by Lux Magazine.
https://lux-magazine.com
The attacks on abortion access and trans existence are coming from the same Christian nationalist far-right playbook. The legal challenges and intimidation campaigns against those seeking reproductive and trans healthcare are coordinated incursions on our right to control our bodies and our lives. How can we connect our two movements more concretely to effectively fight our common enemy and advance bodily autonomy for all?

As demands to defund the police become more and more popular, how do we ensure these calls further on-the-ground work toward a vision of prison industrial complex abolition? How do we make material gains in our struggle for community self-determination and liberation? This session will review our Abolish Policing toolkit and support participants in learning how to develop campaigns to advance the fight against policing.

So good!
Vital
Terrific, to be able to listen to sessions that One missed because they were simultaneous with others. But also great for folks who couldn’t make the conference in the first place.
