    Arsecast Extra Episode 583 - 06.05.2024

    Arsecast Extra Episode 583 - 06.05.2024

In this episode we look back on the 3-0 win over Bournemouth on Saturday afternoon. The Gunners produced a dominant first half, but it was a late first half penalty that gave us the lead at the break. We analyse the key moments of the opening 45, from the potential red card to the missed chances to the award of the spot kick. Then we look at a second half where Leandro Trossard scored again, but was there a touch of good fortune about Bournemouth's disallowed goal which would have made the game more uncomfortable? Declan Rice's performance merited a goal and he got it late on, and we also answer listener questions about whether he should be used as an 8 more than a 6, potential changes to the coaching staff, the Gabriel Jesus story James wrote last week, some #ANGEOUT, and lots more.

    Episode 781 - Antics

In this episode I'm joined by Sam Dean to chat about Ben White and the focus on his 'antics' from corners. Why the focus now? Will it force him and Arsenal to modify behaviour from set-pieces? And does it obscure discussion of his outstanding quality and consistency as a footballer? We also talk about Gabriel Jesus amid reports around his future, Oleksandr Zinchenko perhaps being more 'at risk' of a departure, the new contract offered to Jorginho and what that means for the summer, as well as chat about proposed new financial rules in the Premier League, games being held in the US, and lots more – including details of our donation to UNICEF.

    Arsecast Extra Episode 582 - 29.04.2024

    Arsecast Extra Episode 582 - 29.04.2024

In this episode we look back on the eventful 3-2 win in the North London derby on Sunday. Despite not being at our best, we were 3-0 up at the break, and we discuss the goals we scored, and how we exploited the lack of opposition preparation and awareness – particularly from set-pieces. Ben White and Declan Rice had some fun in that regard. We also chat about the chances they had up the other end, including a disallowed goal, before moving onto the second half. There's focus on David Raya's mistake and the reaction to it from him and his teammates, conceding the late penalty and how it made for an awful, nerve-wracking last 10 minutes, but underlying it all is the fact we won, took three points, and Spurs have crap trumpets. Then there are listener questions about Kai Havertz, Bukayo Saka's reaction to abuse from the stands, Thomas Partey's future and lots more.

    Episode 780- Demolition Derby

    Episode 780- Demolition Derby

In this episode I'm joined by Andrew Allen to look back to Arsenal's 5-0 demolition of Chelsea on Tuesday night. We chat about the quick opening goal which made Anne Hathaway happy, the red card Chelsea should have had, and missed chances from the Gunners. We also look at how we were more solid in the second half, with two goals from Kai Havertz and Ben White – with the former Chelsea man celebrating his strikes with gusto. There's discussion of how Havertz has grown into this team, the Martin Odegaard performance, the significance of the result, and lots more.

    Arsecast Extra Episode 581 - 22.04.2024

In this episode we look back on the 2-0 win at Wolves on Saturday evening which put us back on top of the Premier League. We discuss how Arsenal had to dig deep after a difficult week, but put in a performance that belied the tired legs, despite the fact we had to wait until late to seal the three points. We chat about Leandro Trossard's goal, whether Wolves should have had a red card, David Raya's excellent save, and how Mikel Arteta asked a lot of key men like Odegaard, Rice and Saka and how they delivered. Then we answer questions about goals from set-pieces, which position should be prioritised in the summer transfer window, how the manager rotates his squad (or chooses not to), and lots more – including details of our end of season live podcast event with our friends from the ArsenalVision podcast.

    Arsecast Extra Episode 580 - 18.04.2024

    Arsecast Extra Episode 580 - 18.04.2024

In this one part episode (without Qs in part 2), we look back at Arsenal's Champions League exit, going down 1-0 to Bayern Munich last night. Once again, the second half was below par and we paid the price. We examine the reasons as to why that has been an issue in our last two games, and what Mikel Arteta can do about it in terms of his squad building going forward. There's chat about fatigue and heavy legs, the players we brought on from the bench and the players who stayed on it, what we can learn from this European campaign, how this collective probably needs a smattering of individualism for big games like last night, the striker discussion, and lots more.

As good as it gets

If you’re a Gooner and not listening to this, you’re making a big mistake. It’s literally as good as Arsenal content gets. I look forward to Mondays because of Andrew and James.

Teacher an ,

The gold standard of Arsenal pods

Informed, clever, insightful and heartfelt, the award winning Arseblog Arsecast is the only Arsenal podcast that I absolutely must listen to. Andrew and James have wonderful rapport and chemistry for the Arsecast Extra. They are both very relatable human beings who are humble and often self deprecating. Andrew’s other guests are a well curated mix of great Arsenal minds, and Tim Stillman’s Arsenal Women’s pods are also top notch.

Each episode gives listeners insight, analysis and opinions that are not the usual lazy and tired takes you get from most other media outlets. Instead you get thoughtful answers and in-depth coverage, done with repartee that is simultaneously irreverent and down-to-earth (and often laugh-out-loud funny).

Where other football pods can be a bit too exclusive and/or regionally specific, Andrew has created an atmosphere that is inclusive to an international audience; as an American not raised on “Soccer”, I really appreciate this.

If Arsecast becomes as important a part of your week as it is for mine I would highly recommend joining the Patreon version, which offers more episodes including pods for new signings, EPL recaps (“The 30”), and game previews.
