These are the sermons from First Christian Church in Union, MO. We pray that you are built up in Christ by listening to these teachings of the Word.
One Thing - Needed
One more turn around the table, one more draw from the stack of cards, one more opportunity to play my hand and I would have won.
Unfortunately, life is sometimes like a game of cards and it seems the deck is stacked against you and someone else is going to win. If we were playing partners, you would at least have someone else to blame, but life isn’t that way. We’re on our own in the game of life! Yet, if we only had one more opportunity, one more chance, one more circle around the sun, we’d finally have it all together.
In this message, we’re going to discover that there is only one thing needed, one thing necessary to make life worth living. I hope you’ll join us this weekend as we uncover what it is that we all truly need.
One Thing - Lacking
Who hasn’t overlooked a thing or two in life, or let an opportunity of a lifetime slip through your fingers…all because you lacked one little bit of information that would have tied the bow, closed the deal or connected the dots on that relationship? That can all be behind you.
One Thing - Known
In our text this week, we’ll discover a man who encountered Jesus in a very unique and highly questionable situation. But when push comes to shove, almost literally in our story, there is one thing known, the man was blind but now he sees. Miracle or fraud? Deception or truth? You’ll have to decide when you hear the full story.
Skeptics have always been a part of every generation and continually like to mess with our understanding of how God works in our lives to display His mighty power. Faith, however, is more than that which is tangible, more than that which is visible, more than that which is observable with our senses, and enables us to see reality in things not seen. Blindness comes in many different forms and spiritual blindness is the worse.
One Thing - Desired
Desire is a powerful motivator. It centers in our heart and mind and moves us to do or become something that we believe will satisfy the longing of our heart, that will quench our thirsts, that will refresh our souls, that will bring us joy, happiness, and pleasure. As we enter our new sermon series, entitled “One Thing”, we will be examining through Scripture those things which we should possess in our lives that truly are important and life fulfilling, beginning with One Thing Desired.
To the Cross and Beyond - A Long Time Ago in a Galaxy Far Away
There’s something to making a grand exit. It sticks with you, seals a figure in that moment in our minds and in our hearts. Rather it’s Grogu heading out with Luke, Humphrey Bogart bidding Ingrid Bergman ado in Casablanca (“Here’s looking at you kid…”), or Moses ascending “Mount Nebo, to the top of Pisgah” (Deuteronomy 34:1), surveying the Promised Land he would never enter, those final moments carry with them a weightiness that is hard to put into words.
It should come as no surprise then, that the final moments of Jesus’s time with the apostles, those forty days between His resurrection and ascension to the right hand of the Father should carry with them a weightiness like no other. But unlike these characters from the film, or even Moses, Christ’s final moments leading up to the ascension also carry with them a very real excitement and expectation for what is to come.
Today we follow Christ from Earth to Heaven, and in the process not only get a picture of the glory in which He left, but also of the glory in which He will return.
To the Cross and Beyond - With Death Comes Life
We are the body of Christ, and in Him we die and live again. It is because of His death, burial, and resurrection that we find life everlasting. No longer confined to the shell of mortality, rather, set free by the Spirit to embrace immortality and a life which is imperishable.
Jesus, the firstfruit of resurrection, provides a way for us to experience a full and complete life centered on holiness and righteousness. This weekend, we celebrate His resurrection and the power in Him to overcome the grave and death. May our lives be forever changed because of who He is and what He has done for us.
