As we dive deeper into National Mentoring Month, Kevin interviews long-time minister to fatherless and at-risk youth, Ken Turner. To know that he works weekly in juvenile detention centers and with kids of all ethnic and cultural backgrounds might cause you to expect a loud, domineering personality. But success with students is found in things far more real and relational.

As we’re following Jesus, we are submitting our hearts and lives to Him. Your job is to promote Jesus in every facet of life. God decides when to promote you in those facets of life. In this episode, Kevin and Samuel talk about following the Jesus of the Christmas season into the new year and how to lead others to do the same.
Samuel & Katie are passionate about life, family, friends, church, and most importantly all about Jesus! For them, life and ministry focus on strengthening, encouraging and equipping The Church through discipleship resources, church leadership coaching, and minister with a prophetic edge. Calling the Church to know and follow Jesus passionately, be filled with the Holy Spirit, and bring the hope of the gospel to every corner of the earth!
Samuel, Katie, and their beautiful daughters, Mercedes and Kenzie, are on the pastoral team at Awaken Church in San Diego, with their pastors, Jurgen & Leanne Matthesius. They travel full time ministering to churches and working to help church leaders develop their strategy for discipleship and growth!
A little more of the backstory: They both grew up in Minnesota and responded to the ministry call from a young age and launched into full time ministry in 2003 after Samuel graduated from Champions Centre College and Katie from Hillsong College. They’ve served and led as youth and young adult pastors, directed Champions Centre College, lead community outreach efforts, and now travel full time encouraging and strengthening the Church through preaching, writing and consulting.
Ep. 63 • Cold Case Christian with J. Warner Wallace
Frosty, Rudolph, Santa and Jesus can often get thrown into a blender in the westernized Christmas season. So, as parents, how do we lead our kids in following Jesus? Current reports indicate the age of skepticism is between 10 and 17 years old in today’s generation of young people, deciding that Christianity is not true. Parents must be committed to leading the next generation to Christ, but how can they without the proper tools? In today’s episode with J. Warner Wallace, we take a look at a cold-case detective's case for Christ. The story of Jesus is true, and today’s guest can prove it.
J. Warner Wallace is a Dateline featured cold-case homicide detective, popular national speaker and best-selling author. He continues to consult on cold-case investigations while serving as a Senior Fellow at the Colson Center for Christian Worldview. He is also an adjunct professor of apologetics at Talbot School of Theology (Biola University) and Southern Evangelical Seminary, and a faculty member at Summit Ministries. J. Warner became a Christ-follower at the age of thirty-five after investigating the claims of the New Testament gospels using his skill set as a detective. He eventually earned a Master’s Degree in Theological Studies from Gateway Seminary.
Warner has appeared on television and radio, explaining the role that evidence plays in the Christian definition of “faith” and defending the historicity of Jesus, the reliability of the Bible and the truth of the Christian worldview. Jim also speaks at churches, retreats and camps as he seeks to help people become confident Christian case makers. J. Warner’s book, Cold-Case Christianity, provides readers with ten principles of cold case investigations and utilizes these principles to examine the reliability of the gospel eyewitness accounts. In God’s Crime Scene, he investigates eight pieces of evidence in the universe to make the case for God’s existence. In Forensic Faith, J. Warner makes the case for a more reasonable, evidential Christian faith.
