Partake in Life with Non-Alcoholic Craft Beer with Ted Fleming, Founder & CEO of Partake.
Over a decade ago Ted Fleming, Founder & CEO of Partake, gave up alcohol due to a medical condition but missed the taste and discovery of new craft beers. But more than that, he missed the social connection that comes from sharing a drink with a colleague after a hard day's work or joining in to celebrate special occasions with family and friends.
So a friend suggested that he try non-alcoholic beer. The problem was most of the non-alcoholic beer he tried tasted awful, and there was almost nothing in terms of variety. Unfortunately the long-standing stigma surrounding non-alcoholic beer had been well deserved.
Ted launched Partake Brewing to bring all the things that make craft beer great to non-alcoholic beer drinkers including taste, variety, authenticity, creativity, and passion.
Reimagining Spirits for the Adventurous Drinker with Brad Whiting, Co-Founder & CEO of Wilderton.
Wilderton Founders Brad Whiting and Seth O’Malley came together for a new vision of distilling. Brad, a liquor industry veteran, longed for drink options that would celebrate the complexity and experience of a traditional spirit but that paired better with an active lifestyle. Seth, an expert distiller, had a passion for botanicals and was feeling constrained by the limited flavors celebrated in spirits.
When the two connected, the answer was clear: they set out to create distilled spirits rooted in flavor, unbound by alcohol. With Oregon’s adventurous spirit as their guide, Seth and Brad began a two-year journey of experimentation. Free from the confines of traditional thinking, they combed Seth’s vast library of botanical samples, tried dozens of wild combinations, and experimented with various production methods. The goal? To create spirits with unique flavor and complexity that would elevate non-alcoholic cocktails.
The beautiful result was Wilderton.
Delicious Non-Alcoholic Bourbon with Lauren Chitwood, Co-Founder & CEO of Spiritless.
Spiritless started from a simple premise — that you can make a cocktail that isn’t a cocktail, one that everyone can enjoy. Creating a non-alcoholic spirit in the birthplace of bourbon isn’t for the meek and mild.
But the Spiritless team’s history of entrepreneurship, coupled with their decades of full-proof spirits experience, told them it could be done. Their early efforts at distilling non-alcoholic spirits were mixed, at best. (If you’re picturing a PVC pipe and a popcorn machine, well, you’re not too far off.) Undaunted, they kept experimenting. Taste-testing. Tinkering.
The result was Kentucky 74, a beautifully distilled non-alcoholic spirit crafted to complement your favorite bourbon cocktails. It serves up a high quality, smooth finish, underpinned by familiar notes of caramel, vanilla and oak... without the regrettable, I-need-to-rethink-my-life-choices next days. Spiritless supports the conscientious cocktailers, the no-and-low-ers, the people who want to live fully but drink differently.
Spiritless allows you to cut down your alcohol intake — and your calories — so you can shake, stir, sip and celebrate the way you want.
Using Shrubs to Make Healthy, Complex Non-Alcoholic Drinks with Charlie Berkinshaw, Founder of Element Shrub
Element Shrub started in 2013 when Charlie and his wife Angela were involved in a small, non-profit that foraged local fruit. Through this organization, they learned various techniques to preserve fruit. Around the same time, Angela was pregnant with their first child and began craving something that had the complexity of a cocktail but that was healthy, made with real ingredients and, of course, had no alcohol.
One day, after harvesting 400 pounds of crabapples, they were looking for recipes for their bounty and came across the concept of “shrubs”. They learned that shrubs (not small bushes) have a long and complicated history dating back to the 15th century. In colonial America, shrubs became popular as a way to preserve fruit harvested throughout the summer using vinegar (instead of citrus).
With this knowledge and fruit from their neighborhood, they started experimenting with shrubs by adding different herbs and spices to create intriguing flavor combinations. After mixing their first batch with some sparkling water, the result was a drink that was incredibly refreshing and satisfied every aspect of Angela’s craving.
Eventually Element Shrub was created to produce products with real, simple ingredients that taste good and don’t have a ton of sugar. This means 1) Organic apple cider vinegar 2) Whole, fresh (non-GMO) fruit 3) Organic herbs and spices and 4) A touch of organic cane sugar. These shrubs, which once seemed like a simple solution to a healthy non-alcoholic drink for Angela have evolved into a line of products that are truly unique and wholesome enough to drink every day.

Recently hit 3 months sober and I’m so excited to have found this podcast through the grapevine of online resources, the last one of course being from the For All Drinks online event. My first month was really difficult, I pretty much just drank seltzer and kombucha. But now that I have found GOOD tasting NA beers and spirits it really has changed my outlook on a future without alcohol. Thank you for bringing this community together.
