FOR REAL - episode 5 FOR REAL - the podcast

    • Music

FOR REAL is a podcast on human dignity, made by Resonate Productions. This episode was recorded on the 8th of March 2024 at 17u at The National Theater in The Hague.
For each episode, we get together with a group of people in a theater, to look into what it means to matter as a person. All interviews are carried by improvised music, made by George Dumitriu (viola, guitar), Sarah Jeffery (recorders) and Andrea Voets (harp).
In this episode:
(02:00) Miranda Adriana Gerdina van de Sand - van der Heide - Zomers  [°1965 - Eindhoven, NL]. How can others take you seriously if you don’t take yourself seriously?
(05:10) Musician George asks who wants to be interviewed. With no luck.
(05:58) Ashley Strugo [°Rio de Janeiro, BR] on the many reasons used to set people apart because you are ‘different’. How can you be confident and trust yourself, if everyone tells you you cannot do it?
(10:21) George tries again.
Karlotta von Schwarzenberg  [°2005 - DE] on the surprise of internalized sexism, at a dinner at her boyfriends’ house, where a younger brother said about his older sister that it was not important for her to make her homework.
(12:51) Elsa [°2004 - Sydney, AU] on a special treatment from a teacher in highschool, and how it creates a persistent mindf*ck on the one thing you are most passionate about.
(17:04) Mariana [°1988 - Ukraine] on positive discrimination, combined with mild harassment and insults by a drunk teacher, at a music exam in conservatoire.
(22:52) Yvonne [°1992 - Hoofddorp, NL] on the first thing you have to be as a woman: pretty. The belief, instilled by a.o. her father, that gaining weight would be the worst thing ever, worse than being unemployed or not finishing studies.
(25:32) Phoebe [°2001 - IT] on her mother. How she gave up the career she should have had. How she, Phoebe, and her dad prevented that. And how that pressure and sadness transfers to her in her own life, becoming a diplomat. She ends with the wish for her mom to be able to mourn about it.
(29:16) Alexia [°2000 - UK] asks the profound question: really when it was, when we first accepted that we are less valuable. And how we need creativity to create a whole different world.
(31:34) “What do you deserve?” - Everything.
