Easter Sunday 2024: The Authority of the Resurrected Christ
John 2:13-22 — Why do we follow and worship Jesus? Because he died for our sins on the cross? Because he loves us and saves us and sends his Spirit to comfort, guide and lead us? Because he transformed our lives from condemned messes of rebellion and sin into a flourishing delight in righteousness? All of these are praiseworthy acts, but if were to distill the answer down to a single point, we might say that we don’t worship Jesus for what he has done, but for what (or who) he was declared to be through what he has done. But we also are able to glimpse the figure of another, righteous king of the lineage of David, who indeed will rule with justice and equity, and lead his people in righteousness to many blessings. The Newness of the New Covenant
Jeremiah 31:27-40 – The New Covenant is foundational to the Christian life, but many Christians are unclear about what this means and why it matters. In the midst of turmoil and judgment, Jeremiah speaks of this New Covenant that would comfort his hearers and provide hope for the exiles. We, too, can take great comfort and hope from this Covenant.
