The Chicago Statement on Hermeneutics (073)

Meet the Chicago Statementon Biblical HermeneuticsMany Christians today claim to believe that the Bible is supreme, only to hear their pastors or themselves interpret the Bible in ways that defy every biblical interpretation rule.So today, we dedicate our episode to better biblical understanding. We look at a very important document called the “Chicago Statement on Biblical Hermeneutics,” a doctrinal statement produced in 1982 aimed to improve our biblical interpretation. The Statement, which was hammered out by some of the biggest scholars in Christianity, is made of 15 articles. I originally planned to touch on four articles but since I got some extra time, I decided to do a fifth one. After this episode, you should be able to come away with a clear framework for how to interpret the Bible, one that has been agreed to and signed on by some of the best scholars in biblical and evangelical Christianity so tune in now and let’s go bigger, better, and deeper !If you enjoy this episode, please subscribe to the Godstuff podcast so you're always first to know when a new episode is released.Episode Highlights:* Introduction [0:00]* Who is the “Chicago Statement”? 6 Cliches that Wreck the Gospel (072)

Six Cliches that Wreck the GospelIn Episode 69, we talked about how to tie the knot or how to lead a friend to Christ. Today, we’re going the other way as we talk about how not to mislead someone to Christ. We're going to touch on the six cliches that wreck the gospel. There are a lot of cliches that have crept into Christian vocabulary, most of which distort the truth. In fact, there are particular ones that twist the way of salvation and the gospel. We've all used them. We've all heard them. They muddy the waters of the gospel of grace. It is necessary for us to have a conversation about these 6 destructive cliches so we can, once and for all, put an end to using them in spreading the word of God.Let’s go bigger, better, and deeper !If you enjoy this episode, please subscribe to the Godstuff podcast so you're always first to know when a new episode is released.Episode Highlights:* Introduction [0:00]* Cliché #1: “Ask Jesus into your heart or life.” [3:48]* Cliché #2: “Give your life (or your heart) to Christ.” [6:26]* Cliché #3: “Commit your life to Christ” [10:01]* Cliché #4: “Make Jesus your Lord and/or master” [12:42]* Cliché #5: “Surrender your life to God or give Him anything.” [14:21]* Cliché #6: “Follow Jesus.” [21:37]Biblical References:* 1 Corinthians 15* Ephesians 1:13* John 3:36* 1 Timothy 2:3* 1 Timothy 2:4* Revelation 22:2* Galatians 3:16* The Book of Exodus* 1 John 3:15* Deuteronomy 23:13* Deuteronomy 23:14About Our Host:Bill Giovannetti is the Senior Pastor at Pathway Church, Redding, California — an experienced senior pastor with a demonstrated history of working in the religious institutions industry. God Stuff

This is a fantastic way to read and learn The Bible. I believe Bill should do one on the Trinity as suggested by Bill in an earlier Podcast; I believe it was in the “Jesus is God” podcast! Love this Podcast!

The Trinity Podcast knocked it out of the park! Listened to it no less than 3 times and likely will listen again!! Bill truly is a gifted speaker/teacher/pastor!!

Know your stuff!

It won’t take you long to realize that Pastor Bill knows his stuff! He is extremely versed and educated, and comes at Biblical topics in a way that allows you to not only come away with a deeper understanding of Biblical truths, but a deeper knowledge of them as well, so you’ll know your stuff, too! Listening to Bills podcasts and teachings will no doubt change the way you convey the gospel to your friends and family, give you a daily hunger for Biblical truth in your life, and answer the question, “how do I apply Biblical teachings to my life today?”
