Lately God's challenged the modern notion of intensive hours of sermon preparation in the church. When I began to question how the likes of George Whitefield and John Wesley could preach two or three sermons a day, all while riding tens of thousands of miles on horseback if they had to invest nine or ten hours of prep per sermon, God told me to put my money, or at least my time, where my mouth is. This podcast is the result. With minimal prep, I show up each night to listen for what God has to say and pass it along. Anything you find inspiring is entirely the work of the Holy Spirit. Anything that is less than that is entirely my imperfect transmission of the message of our glorious God. Be blessed and be a blessing. Praying in Jesus name.

    On Drowning

    On Drowning

    On Drowning sermon

    Romans 1:18-32; 2:1-4

With the goodness of God and the Gospel of Jesus as the beginning, the list of sins Paul shares in Romans reads in a different light. Not laundry list for us to vindicate our thoughts on “them” nor a screed against sinners, it is instead a moment to make the faithful weep with compassion over the plight of humanity, lost without Christ, drowning in the despair of wickedness run rampant without the grace of God. Who will save me? … God’s kindness leads to repentance.

PS – I had a song line in my head that kept rolling with the On Identity episode. I couldn’t remember it. It had a line about the devil saying “Who do you think you are?” I ran across it today. Shoulda known it would be Casting Crowns.

    Nobody

PSS – One more. God brought this one to me this week, and it seems to fit here. If you want the rest of His message that came with it, you can visit the Facebook Post here.

    On Beginnings

    On Beginnings sermon

God is the hero of Scripture, and He introduces Himself before He reveals anything else in creation. When we prepare to look at understand sin, we must see it in the context of the whole story, beginning with God’s goodness in creation and ending with His redeeming the whole creation. Sin is important to understand, but it’s really just the bit in between.

    Genesis 1; Romans 1; Psalm 139

    Romans 1

The enemy of our soul is a thief out to steal our identity in Christ. When he asks, “Who do you think you are?” we need to know we are called to belong to Jesus.

    On Worked Together sermon

    Romans 8:18-39

Sometimes it’s hard to feel our lives will be worked together by God for good. Often we just feel worked over, beaten down, and struggling to hold hope. We need to fix our eyes on the things of God, and realign our expectations with the full Word God speaks to us in this passage.
