Something brand new on a Thursday morning! Today we were joined on the show by local author Victoria Hyla Maldonado and her son & daughter; Joaquin & Mika! Unbridled energy, juice boxes and coffee at 8 am. Let me tell you, these kids are making the most of school being out! Victoria came onto the show to tell her about her latest work, Tears Of The Butterfly and what else she has cooking. We did squeeze in a little news, here's today's topics:
- Monday, Monday, Monday; don't forget about Monday! State Reps. Stephanie Kifowit, (D-Oswego), Representative Barbara Hernandez (D-Aurora), Keith Wheeler, (R-Oswego) are partnering with The Kane Senior Council and St. Athanasios Greek Orthodox Church to provide free frozen meals to seniors once a month, from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. on prescribed Mondays during the summer at St. Athanasios, located at 1855 5th Ave. in Aurora. Event dates are currently scheduled for the upcoming Monday, June 21, July 12, Aug. 16, and Sept. 13. Shouts out! #community
- Saturday June 19th starting at 3:30 pm is the Freedom & Heritage Celebration, One Nation, presented by the African American Men Of Unity. This will be held at Martin Luther King Park on Farnsworth & Grand on the east side. Admission is free, there will be food, a moon jump, face painting, vendors and even a talent contest! Join the parade! Special shout out and thank you to the AAMOU, the African American Heritage Advisory Board and the COA. #juneteenth
- Our friends of Fox Valley United Way are having their very first Halloween Hustle 5K & 1 Mile Fun Walk! This is a great fundraising event, the proceeds of which will ensure financial support for our children. The date will take place on Oct. 17th at 9 am at Phillips Park.
