Revoking the Ruler's Authority (Lex Rex Part 2)

Revoking the Ruler's Authority (Lex Rex Part 2)

On today's episode I continue walking through the book Lex Rex, by Samuel Rutherford. Lex Rex simply means that the law is king. It is a book that very simply and logically looks at the nature and purpose of government. It also addresses issues such as civil disobedience and resistance, ideas that greatly influenced the American War for Independence. On this episode we look at chapters four and five regarding whether or not the people can revoke the power that they grant to a ruler.

As always, if you have any civic/government related questions, feel free to email me at thegbgpodcast@gmail.com, and I will be happy to address them on the program. Thank you and God bless!

S1E10 - Introduction to Lex Rex

On today's episode I begin walking through the book Lex Rex, by Samuel Rutherford. Lex Rex simply means that the law is king. It is a book that very simply and logically looks at the nature and purpose of government. It also includes topics such as civil disobedience and resistance, ideas that led to Rutherford himself being arrested. On this episode we look at the first three chapters and why government exists in the first place.

S1E9 - Defending Theonomy, Part 2 (Response to White Horse Inn)

S1E9 - Defending Theonomy, Part 2 (Response to White Horse Inn)

Today is the second part of my defense of theonomy. Last episode, I responded to a 9Marks podcast episode hosted by Jonathan Leeman and Mark Dever. Today, I look at a recent episode from the White Horse Inn podcast, hosted by Dr. Michael Horton. While the episode originally aired back in 2008, it was re-released a few weeks ago prior to the election. So, today I look at some of the statements that the hosts make, showing some inconsistencies in how they understand God's law. Again, theonomy does not mean making a carbon-copy of Old Testament Israel. It means recognizing that every system has a god and every god has a law.

Here is the link to the White Horse Inn podcast episode (re-released October 21, 2020):

    S1E8 - Defending Theonomy, Part 1 (Response to 9Marks)

    S1E8 - Defending Theonomy, Part 1 (Response to 9Marks)

Today is the first part of a two-part series on a defense of theonomy. In part one, I respond to a recent 9Marks podcast episode hosted by Jonathan Leeman and Mark Dever. They interview T. David Gordon, who critiques theonomy and reacts to its apparent growth in popularity. I look at some of the statements that they make, showing that what they are really attacking is not theonomy but a straw-man. Theonomy does not mean making a carbon-copy of Old Testament Israel. It means recognizing that every system has a god and every god has a law.

    Tattle Tales, Twitter, and Tyranny

    Tattle Tales, Twitter, and Tyranny

Today I look at the recent situation regarding Twitter, Facebook, and possible congressional subpoenas. What is the difference between being a publisher and a platform? How does God's law regarding slander apply to this? Is the solution for the government to take control of platforms like Facebook and Twitter? I cover these questions and more on today's episode!

    God's Law, Man's Law

    God's Law, Man's Law

On today's episode I look at how God's law is the foundation for all law and how man's law should be viewed in light of that reality. We see God's law both in nature and in Scripture, yet it is all a reflection of His character. But when man's law deviates or contradicts God's law, does man's law stop being a law? Was it ever really a law at all?

Good basic Bible Interpretation

Eric takes an organized approach to presenting Biblical truth and interprets the scriptures in a normative manner. There is no “ax to grind” or an agenda to present. If you are interested in good Bible teaching on specific topics- in this case government- this is a good podcast to listen to regularly.
