- A study of swearing habits in Canada, Britain and the United States suggests Canadians are the most likely to curse while conversing with friends. The poll found 56 percent of Canadian respondents admitted to using profanity on a regular or occasional basis while talking to friends, compared with 51 percent in Britain and 46 percent in the United States.
Scientists (University College London) have used a mathematical equation to accurately predict the happiness of more than 18,000 people around the world. The formula for happiness, according to the equation, depends on whether things are better than expected, and not just on how well things are going. People felt happiest when they performed better than expected on a risk-reward task.
America’s willingness to be vaccinated for COVID-19 has hit a new low. Data from a Yahoo News/YouGov Poll shows roughly two in five (42%) U.S. adults say they will get vaccinated if and when one becomes available, down seven points from 55 percent on May 6.
WACKY-BUT-TRUE: 12-YEAR-OLD KICKS INTRUDER BETWEEN THE LEGS _ A 12-year-old UK girl discovered a burglar in her family’s kitchen and drove him off with the only weapon she had on her. The girl said she heard a door slam while she was alone in her family’s house and discovered the stranger standing in the kitchen. She says when the intruder smiled at her she thought, “I do not want him thinking I am just a helpless little girl.” Her solution was to kick the crook between the legs — very hard. She said he was groaning as he fled.
WACKY-BUT-TRUE: DETAINED ‘DRUG SMUGGLER’ CAT ESCAPES PRISON _ A cat detained at Sri Lanka’s main prison while allegedly trying to smuggle in drugs and cell phone SIM cards has escaped. The feline was detected by jail intelligence officials on Saturday at the high-security Welikada Prison. Nearly two grams of heroin, two SIM cards and a memory chip were found in a small plastic bag tied around the cat’s neck. But it escaped on Sunday from a prison room where it was kept.
WACKY-BUT-TRUE: RESTAURANT SORRY AS CUSTOMER FINDS DEEP-FRIED MOTH IN HIS TAKEAWAY MEAL _ A chicken fan in England got a creepy surprise in his Nando’s order as a deep fried moth was among the fries. Pictures show the crispy critter at the bottom of the fry box, fried to a perfect crunch along with the potato snacks. The restaurant chain was forced to apologize and a Nando’s spokesperson said the company “regrets any distress this event caused”.
WACKY-BUT-TRUE: ROBBER WITH BIG HONKER _ It wasn’t a big gun or knife that caught the eye of an armed thief’s victim in Austria. Instead, the bandit’s protruding nose left its mark. Police issued an alert for residents to be on the lookout for a man with a big nose in his mid-20s or early 30s after he held up a gas station. The cashier who was robbed told authorities the thief was rather plain, except for his big honker.
WACKY-BUT-TRUE: MAN HOLDS UP STORE, GETS ONLY UNDERWEAR _ A man held up a clothing store in Germany. Too bad for hims there was almost no cash in the register. That, however, was not enough to stop the determined man and he demanded underwear instead. According to the owner of the store the thief escaped with about $188 worth of assorted undergarments.
