Harvey Brownstone conducts an in-depth interview with Ann Hampton Callaway, Renowned Singer, Songwriter & Recording Artist
About Harvey's guest:
Today’s special guest, Ann Hampton Callaway, is one of America’s most gifted, prolific and iconic artists – a mega talented singer, multi-platinum songwriter, recording artist, musician, and a beloved champion of the Great American songbook.
Her rich, perfect pitch voice and unique singing style, creating a brilliant blend of jazz and traditional pop, together with her trademark warmth and wit, have made her a renowned, sell-out concert artist across the country and internationally.  She’s performed with more than 40 of the world’s top orchestras and big bands, at the most prestigious concert halls including Carnegie Hall, the Lincoln Centre, the Kennedy Center, Boston Symphony Hall, and many more.
She has shared the stage with everyone from Dizzy Gillespie, Stevie Wonder, Liza Minnelli and Betty Buckley, to Audra McDonald, Christine Ebersole, Melissa Manchester and Michael Feinstine.
As a songwriter, she’s simply phenomenal.  She’s the only composer to have collaborated with Cole Porter.   She’s written songs with many of the greats, including Carole King, Amanda McBroom, Shelby Lynn – and most recently, with my dear friend Melissa Manchester.
And her songs are featured on EIGHT of Barbra Streisand’s albums.    She’s recorded 16 critically acclaimed albums including, “Bring Back Romance”, “After Ours”, “Slow”, “Blues in the Night”, “Jazz Goes to the Movies”, 2 Christmas albums, 2 albums with her incredibly talented sister Liz Callaway.
And now, following the enormous success of her tribute albums to Ella Fitzgerald and Sarah Vaughn, she’s released her highly anticipated brand new album entitled, “Fever: A Peggy Lee Celebration”, containing 14 beautiful songs made famous by the legendary Peggy Lee.
The list of accolades and awards our guest has amassed, is jaw-dropping.  She got a Tony award nomination for Best Actress for her performance in the hit Broadway musical “Swing”.  She’s won the Theater World Award, 15 MAC Awards, the Mabel Mercer Award, and the Johnny Mercer Award for Songwriting.  She was voted by Broadway World as “Performer of the Year”, and 2 years in a row as “Best Jazz Vocalist”.  And last year, Broadway World named her “Entertainer of the Year”.
And if ALL THAT weren’t enough – yes, it’s true – she’s the one who wrote and performed that wonderful theme song for the hit TV show “The Nanny”.
