    Sweetwater’s Golden Anniversary

The Sweetwater Music Hall is a legendary live music venue in Mill Valley, CA, that has served as an intimate playpen for world-renowned musicians for 50 years. The “once in a lifetime” show has been a commonplace occurrence at Sweetwater, where a lucky few have been in the room to see iconic artists share the stage, like when Jerry Garcia jammed with Elvis Costello and Sammy Hagar, or the night Bonnie Raitt joined John Lee Hooker and Santana, and more recently Jim James, or Billy Strings playing with Bobby Weir.

Jerry Garcia & David Grisman: 12/17/90

The “once in a lifetime” show has been a commonplace occurrence at Sweetwater over the past 50 years.  In this episode, we’ll be taking you back to December 17, 1990, giving you a front row seat to Jerry Garcia & David Grisman’s legendary performance at the Village Music Christmas Party.  This was the first time Jerry and his dear friend “Dawg” had played together publicly in nearly 20 years.  Garcia & Grisman would go on to release multiple studio albums highlighting their love of traditional acoustic music, recorded at Grisman’s home studio in Mill Valley. They would perform 20 more concerts over the next few years, but it all started with this magical evening at the old Sweetwater.
