An Interview with Financial Planner Samantha Holowka

Health and wealth are inextricably linked. Getting healthy financially helps you get healthy physically.

Dr. Carmen Mohan shifts focus to financial health in the final episode to Season 5. Chatting with financial advisor Samantha Holowka about the strong link between financial and physical well-being, Dr. Mohan and Ms. Holowka talk us through how important it is to build a strong financial base to achieve our healthiest selves. The building blocks of financial success are like those for any successful career: pour into your career, spend less than you bring in, surround yourself with financial professionals who are dedicated to “playing your game, not somebody else’s,” and take advice from people who are where you want to be. Financial health counts on self-care. So, take care of yourself first so you can do the work necessary to secure your future financial success.

How We Use Our Second Brain with HelloHealth Advisor Michelle Hylton

How We Use Our Second Brain with HelloHealth Advisor Michelle Hylton

Building trusting relationships that help us with our personal health transformations.

Dr. Carmen Mohan continues her discussion of the importance of cultivating “second brains” with HelloHealth Advisor Michelle Hylton. As an integral part of personal health transformation, the identification and cultivation of second brains, or people you can trust to help and advise you, are critical. We can’t do it all, even though our society promotes and reveres self-sufficiency. Hylton shares how she is currently in a life period when relying on her second brain network is crucial for her own personal health and why she agrees with HelloHealth’s philosophy that self-care is a professional responsibility.

We’re in a season where the HelloHealth Concept of “Time Defense” is critical to our ability to respond fully and most productively in all aspects of our lives. The lines between work and home have been blurred by the pandemic, and the increased reliance on screens to help us navigate meetings and professional responsibilities has tired us more quickly. As a lawyer who views her vocation as one of service to others, Hylton acts as one of Dr. Mohan’s trusted second brains. Listen as the two women discuss why we should not feel guilty when we need to reach out to others and what the main responsibility of a second brain needs to be to build and maintain a trusted relationship. Together, we can change the idea that we need to be self-sufficient and instead embrace one of fostering rich, meaningful, and beneficial relationships that help us all reach our full potential.

Second Brain with HelloHealth CTO John Dudley

Second Brain with HelloHealth CTO John Dudley

Two brains are better than one.

HelloHealth Chief Technology Officer and Industrial Imagination Founder and Director of Software Engineering John Dudley joins Dr. Carmen Mohan in this episode for a frank discussion on how collaboration inspires creativity, frees us to focus on our life missions, and can lead to true opportunities to change the world. Mr. Dudley is a three-decade strong friend of Dr. Mohan’s, and the two have come to build a supportive relationship that defines the idea of a “second brain.” Listen along as they discuss how Mr. Dudley first got into the health-care industry, what personal forces have shaped who he is, what drives him professionally, and why he considers his calling to create technology solutions for resource limited health and education organizations “selfish.”

Collaboration, or having at least one second brain, is an important resource to cultivate in order to build your personal health portfolio. When you have someone to turn to, whether it’s to bounce ideas off, get tasks completed that aren’t in your wheelhouse, or foster your creative spirit, a second brain can make a huge difference in your productivity and effectiveness. Find out how Dr. Mohan has made a “forever” mark on Mr. Dudley’s business, Industrial Imagination, and the reasons he chose to become involved in HelloHealth. This work has inspired him to take on the role of CTO. Dudley is passionate about the HelloHealth mission to give accessible health-care opportunities to Black women in particular, which aligns with his own belief that when we empower others by using our skills and resources, we equip them to change the world.

Tess Gamble: The Art of Delegation

Tess Gamble: The Art of Delegation

A Conversation with Entrepreneur Tess Gamble

Delegation is an art. In this episode, Dr. Carmen Mohan sits down with Pend Upon founder Tess Gamble to talk about the importance of delegation for our overall health. As the owner of an Atlanta-based concierge firm dedicated to helping busy professionals find their work/life balance again, Ms. Gamble is an expert in the art of delegation. Learn how Dr. Mohan came to embrace the benefits of delegation and asking for help as she shares her own story of feeling overwhelmed by everything on her plate.
Sometimes leaders don’t know what they need and, therefore, don’t know how to delegate. Learn the reason why empathetic listening is key to successful delegation. When we get overwhelmed by our to-do lists, our health suffers. We waste valuable time and personal resources on tasks that we might be better off handing to others. If we can find someone we trust, it is easier to delegate. Ms. Gamble provides examples from her own life and discusses how her experience working 18-hour days with no help prompted her to start her own business dedicated to helping others delegate so that they can experience the joy of life.
