Dahler, who was reporting for ABC News at the time, lived just blocks from Ground Zero. Examining The Bonfire of the Vanities with Ben Mankiewicz and Julie Salamon
"The Bonfire of the Vanities" went from one best-selling novels of the 1980s, but the film based on the Tom Wolfe ("The Right Stuff") book would go down as an all-time worst.
This edition of the podcast looks at why it failed so historically, despite an A-list cast (Tom Hanks, Bruce Willis and Melanie Griffith) or perhaps that's a major factor for the film's demise.
TCM host Ben Mankiewicz and film critic/author Julie Salamon, who host the TCM podcast "The Plot Thickens: The Devil's Candy" (based on Julie's book about the making of the movie) are here for an entertaining debate about the blockbuster flop. https://theplotthickens.tcm.com
