    CHN'siders - 2019-20 Week 13 - Minnesota State

A cavalcade of topics, as Joe and Adam bounce around the country, and around the world to discuss the big news -- like the Baseball and Rock Halls of Fame (Doobie Bros.?) -- and the aw shucks charm of Tom Brady and Derek Jeter, not to mention some recent Hobey winners. But really, it's all about the week that just was, and some big games. What are the chances going forward for some teams trying to make a push? In listener questions, what's really the most important part of building a program? And we look at the week ahead, and Adam's impending run-in with fish.

This week, Michigan gets top honors after a sweep of Notre Dame. What does it mean going forward for both teams? We go in depth on the other big games, then talk North Dakota with Grand Forks Herald writer Brad Schlossman, where we also, again, get into our pet topic about video review on major penalties. There's more Pairwise discussion, as it relates to scheduling, and much more as usual.

Lots of snow has been falling this week in college hockey country, but the races are heating up. The Team of the Week is Bowling Green, coming off a sweep of Notre Dame; but it just as easily could've been Minnesota State, which swept Minnesota-Duluth on the road. We talk about them with their long-time beat writer, Shane Fredrick. Then long-time college hockey contributor, broadcaster and historian Mike Machnik jumps in with us to discuss ... Boston University again, expansion again, the top teams of all time, and a long chat about the future of the WCHA.

    CHN'siders - 2019-20 Week 8 - Happy Thanksgiving

    CHN'siders - 2019-20 Week 8 - Happy Thanksgiving

Much frivolity is in the air as we head to Thanksgiving weekend. First though, we talk football (#sticktosports) and protests, as Chris was in attendance at last week's big Yale-Harvard football game. Michigan Tech is the Team of the Week after sweeping rival Northern Michigan. ... Our guest is Andrew Merrick, who played four years at Michigan and won a national championship in 1998 as a sophomore, and whose father, Wayne, was a member of four Stanley Cup champions with the Islanders. We touch on all of that and more, plus the current Michigan squad. ... And then our listener questions, where we debate the most overrated Thanksgiving food, and whether turkeys can fly.

    0:00 Intro / Yale football
    7:55 Boston University / attendance
12:57 Michigan Tech, Team of the Week
    19:20 Andrew Merrick, Michigan alum/radio
43:45 The week ahead / Thanksgiving
    48:50 Listener questions
    50:50 Talking Turkey (and Hobey)

Unlistenable, even for a BU fan

How to make a podcast unlistenable:

*Alternate between audio that’s roughly five times louder or softer
*Have an interviewer that doesn’t really ask questions / seems more intent on telling knowledge to his guests than letting them share their knowledge (and I love Bernie as a broadcaster & BU as a team)
*Obnoxious commercials that never fail to be in the “louder” camp
*Poor sound quality, especially for interviewees (not that Bernie gives them much space)
*Be far inferior to similar offerings (College Hockey Today, Hockey Goes to College, etc.)
*Don't improve over months, or even years, when a frustrated fan keeps giving you extra chances

/rant

but seriously, save your time & download the other podcasts, the hope that you’ll do so will make my time listening and typing feel less wasted.
