A Proactive Approach & Evidence Based Strategies For Children’s Mental Health with Lynn McLaughlin

In this episode, Lynn McLaughlin and I have a conversation about using a proactive approach and evidence-based strategies to help children build self-awareness, motivation, empathy, and social and self-regulation skills at a young age.
Lynn McLaughlin’s mission is to lead and empower people to make conscious and positive choices. She gives people the opportunity to share their voices through her podcast Taking the Helm, her writing, and public speaking.
As a best-selling and award-winning author, Lynn has now teamed up with her niece, Amber Raymond, to co-author a children’s book series titled, “The Power of Thought”. Both she and Amber are passionate about being proactive when it comes to children’s mental health. When children learn to manage their emotions at a young age, they learn to problem-solve and find positive solutions to everyday situations.
Which is something that we are so focused on here on The Empowered Child Podcast.
Lynn’s professional speaking experiences have been local, provincial, and international as she leads us in tackling our barriers so that we can move forward to new and exciting possibilities.
Dedicated to community causes, Lynn is a member of 100 Women Who Care Windsor/Essex and is a Rotarian. As a brain tumor survivor, she works tirelessly to support the goals of the Brain Tumour Foundation of Canada. She shares more of her story and is truly a champion in every sense of the word.
As an educator … Superintendent, Principal, Vice-Principal, Teacher, and Educational Consultant, Lynn McLaughlin served in many roles. In addition to her business, Lynn continues to be active in education, teaching future Educational Assistants at her local College.
This was a powerful and fun conversation. I hope you enjoy it as well.

How To Apply Self-Help Principles In Real-World Scenarios As An ADHD Mom with Heidi Speaker

How To Apply Self-Help Principles In Real-World Scenarios As An ADHD Mom with Heidi Speaker

In this episode, I have a conversation with Heidi Speaker. Heidi is a 33-year-old mother of 3 children ranging from ages 7 to 18 mo. She is the CEO and founder of Growth and Gainz, an online health & fitness coaching company.  She specializes in helping adhd moms build muscle, burn body fat, while boosting their mental & emotional health in the process.
Growing up with a stigma around adhd, and thinking it was a just a poor excuse people made for their lack of work ethic, Heidi soon realized the power and growth that would come when she learned the truth about adhd, how it impacted her, and the treatments & tools available to overcoming the shame and pitfalls that are so common with ADHD.
Heidi’s journey is one of ups and downs, but a happy ending where she is thriving and living her best life!
She initially coped and managed her adhd by working harder than everyone else, journaling, and staying structured with exercise and routines.
After having two children, her symptoms became unmanageable as she didn’t know how to ask for help, or understand all the sensations she was experiencing in her body.
As she got better at seeking out resources, asking for help, and stepping into the scary world of vulnerability, Heidi saw the growth that came and got addicted.
She has since had a third baby, launched her online business, and grown her influence to now helping hundreds of other women overcome their own crippling fears and habits so they too can step into a life they love in a body they’re proud of.
She has also competed in two bodybuilding shows since her third baby, who just turned 18 months old.
Join us today as we have talk more about her journey and the tools that have been most helpful in her growth and successes.
