Bona fide cinephiles

I love, love movies, and I love listening to movie podcasts. My top complaints about many of them:
1. They stray way too far into random tangents.
2. They don’t understand the plot, characters, and/or themes of the movie they are reviewing.
3. They don’t understand/appreciate the history and/or art of cinema.
4. They don’t know how to put a movie into the proper context and only look at the movie through “current” lenses.

These guys have remedied all of that for me. They understand and appreciate the art of what they are looking at, but at the same time they aren’t pretentious about it. Because of that, they also aren’t afraid to tackle (and talk intelligently about) some more controversial movies. (I just listened to Requiem for a Dream and A Clockwork Orange back-to-back, and they were great.)

If you love movies, listen to these guys.

These guys are awesome & funny

Zach & Matt are pretty insightful about cinema & work well with each other - also if you’re interested in an accumulation of discussion about how time works these guys are for you!

They are definitely NOT ‘movie bros’ - digging really deep into the background of each movie they review & its impact. They also say ‘neo-noir’ & ‘pre-internet’ a ton so that could be a fun drinking game.

I always look forward to their next pod - I’ve watched a lot of films I would not have just based on their recommendations & reviews.

Great podcast

Genuinely funny podcast. Thorough movie reviews and a dive into the art of movie making. I love the pod!
