BSP: Believer Skeptic Podcast is a podcast that delves into strange and humorous phenomena including simulacra (seeing Jesus on your toast), supernatural sightings, crypto-zoology, and so much more. Cody and Chris have created a platform on which they discuss both sides of the phenomena (real or bulls**t) while sipping on booze and spirits that represent their chosen topic. They hope to entertain, enlighten, and maybe even educate you on all things fun and weird. Whose side will you be on? Are you a believer or a skeptic?
Ghostly Face Off
In this minisode, you may have a harder time guessing the next topic as we talk about highway ghosts and a freakish face off (literally). First, Chris tells the strange story of a woman travelling down the highway who sees a man walk into traffic, only to disappear into thin air. Then, Cody shares an even more bizarre tale in which a woman kills her daughter, removes her scalp, and wears it in an effort to attract her son-in-law. Can you guess next week’s topic?
In this Halloween episode, Cody and Chris go all OG and dive into witches, and it’s super fascinating. First, Cody talks about Mother Shipton, the female Nostradamus who could cause chamber pots to empty on men’s heads. Then, Chris shares a story (from an old book he loved) about a man who takes flight with some naked witches. Next, Cody discusses the witches of Abiquiu, New Mexico, which turned into the last known witch trials in North America. Finally, Chris talks about the witches of Trasmos, the one region of Spain excommunicated by the Catholic Church for witchcraft. Creep of the Week is an amazing witchy story by Lern. Drinks this week are Wicked Cranberry Cider and a Chris original.
In this Halloween minisode, Cody and Chris tell stories of a heretic gold digger and a crazy a** owl attack. First, Chris talks about Alice Kyetler, an Irish “black widow” who disappeared after her conviction, never to be heard from again. Then, Cody tells us about a family’s wild experience with a Lechuza (owl) that may have been the cause of one woman’s cancer. Can you guess next week’s topic?
Ouija, I Hardly Know Ya
In this episode, Cody and Chris bring on the amazing, incredible hosts of the Box of Oddities podcast, Kat and Jethro, to finally talk about a subject they have been avoiding for sometime: spirit boards. First, Kat tells a reddit story in which a girl and her friends summon a spirit that supposedly moves trees. Then, Jethro shares a story where another group of girls contact a spirit who spews out Heart lyrics that become ominously relevant later. Next, Cody tells us about his own personal Ouija experience, followed by the true story of a girl who killed a family member after being instructed by a summoned spirit. Finally, Chris gets into a true Ouija experience in Spain that was the basis for the horror movie, Veronica. Creep of the Week is a game that Cody plays with our guests. Drinks this week are Game Day Bud Light, Voodoo Ranger, and NA Sangria.
This minisode is easy to guess, but it’s a fun one about conjuring spirits. First, Cody talks about a Christian reddit user who spoke in tongues to save his family from a demonic attack. Then, Chris shares the story of a little girl who played with a ouija board that suddenly vanished and was never seen again. Can you guess next week’s “subtle” topic? *snicker*
I Dream of Jinni
In this episode, Chris and Cody travel to the Middle East to share those supposed wish granting creatures, jinn. First, Cody talks about Hank Wessleman PhD, who details his own super woo encounters with a jinn who told him all about the universe. Then, Chris tells a true story of one Muslim practitioner’s close encounter with a spirit she believed to be a jinn. Next, Cody discusses a specific town, Bahla, Oman, where jinn are said to mess with people like crazy and cause walls to “refuse” to be rebuilt after crumbling. Finally, Chris tells of another town, Al Jazirah Al Hamra, a once thriving pearl-diving village that has been said to be abandoned due to an infestation of djinn. Creep of the Weeks brings us the thrilling conclusion of listener Heather’s story of her home in Nicaragua. Drinks this week are Hive & Honey Wine and Saudi Champagne.
I love the variety on BSP and the back and forth. It’s a fun take on the supernatural and weird!
