This Sunday is Pentecost Sunday – a celebration that goes back thousands of years, deep into the Old Testament. We’ll look more at the history of this particular celebration and what has happened over time to make it what it is today. We’ll see and hear how the plan was always to transform this celebration to be so much more than it was originally – but that’s how the Lord always works! We’ll be transitioning from our Easter series, Words to Live By, into our new summer series, Life in the Spirit: It’s Complicated.

In the meantime, keep working on memorizing and putting God’s Word in your heart, especially this passage from last Sunday – “Humble yourselves, therefore, under God’s mighty hand, that he may lift you up in due time. Cast all your anxiety on him because he cares for you. Be self-controlled and alert. Your enemy the devil prowls around like a roaring lion looking for someone to devour. Resist him, standing firm in the faith, because you know that your brothers throughout the world are undergoing the same kind of sufferings.” (1 Peter 5:6-9)

This Sunday we hear Peter refer to Satan as a “roaring lion looking for whom he may devour.” We’ll look at the realities of Satan and his work in this world as well as the important direction our Savior gives to us as to how to counter that roaring lion in our midst. These are again some powerful Words to Live By.

Always be prepared to give an answer to everyone who asks you to give the reason for the hope that you have. This Sunday the Lord is encouraging us to be ready, to be prepared. For what? To give an answer to anyone who asks us about our faith, about Jesus, about how we live like we do, which is a life filled with hope. These again are some powerful Words to Live By.

In the meantime, keep working on memorizing and putting God’s Word in your heart, especially this passage from last Sunday – “But you are a chosen people, a royal priesthood, a holy nation, God’s special possession, that you may declare the praises of him who called you out of darkness into his wonderful light. Once you were not a people, but now you are the people of God; once you had not received mercy, but now you have received mercy.” (1 Peter 2:9-10)

This Sunday we hear some powerful words of affirmation from our Lord through Peter in this week’s Words to Live By. My prayer is that as we gather in worship, we are reminded of some very important promises and words our risen Savior has given us – words that speak pretty directly to some of the confusion and challenges that we’re up against in our culture today.

This Sunday’s Words to Live By are all about healing. What does that healing look like? Healing takes many different forms but when it’s all said and done, healing is what we need – all of us!
