1. Have a professional image. Invest now so that you can enjoy the return on investment (ROI). A professional image right away looks better than one not so professional. So that's an easy win. The picture shows that you take your work seriously and provide equal treatment to those you support. The very clients are shopping around for a counselor by looking at their photos.
2. Use average Joe Words. Create your description (personal statement) with average Joe language versus clinical.
3. Hyperfocus on the first paragraph. This is your hook. I like to look at it as the hook in books or TV shows. As such, focus on:
a. Utilize average joe terms.
b. Speak to your ideal client.
c. Address your ideal client's pain point.
d. Have a call to action.
4. Speak to your ideal client's pain point. Your Psychology Today profile should speak to your ideal client in a manner that highlights their pain points. Before writing down the answer, it's crucial to create your ideal client.
5. Creating a call to action. Your Psychology Today should have a CALL TO ACTION. Overall, the purpose of a call to action is to create a type of conversion.
6. Create a video for your Psychology Today profile. Video is a great way to get someone to stop and listen to what you have to say. For the video, try to take the same approach as discussed in Number 4. Work to speak to your ideal client versus everyone.
7. It's okay to focus on one person. It can be scary to focus on one person or a particular specialty due to thinking that you will leave others out or even miss out on working with other perspective clients.
8. You do not have to serve everyone. Do not check every box. Your Psychology today profile will give you the option to select many areas of focus and specialties. Try your best to choose only the ones that connect to the ideal client you are speaking to.
9. Have images of your office. The photos can include your home office and/or business office location. These photos help clients build comfort in getting to know your office space and, as such you.
10. Utilize stories or personal statements. An additional strategy you can utilize is to bridge the gap between you and the client by using storytelling or sharing unique variables. The goal is to share enough to build a connection while maintaining boundaries and ethics.
