Interview with Karey Maurice (featuring Mike Collins‪)‬ The Living Artist

    • Arts

In this episode of The Living Artist, Preston and Mike Collins sit down to interview New Jersey and "Beast Coast" artist Karey Maurice, aka KaMo. This episode is dropping right before two of Karey's exhibitions with ShockBoxx Gallery this and next month; one being a solo show entitled Cones To Bones and the other in the now infamous group exhibition Intergalactic Open 2. Mike joins us to talk about his relationship with KaMo, how these two shows came to be and to add his insights as an artist and gallery owner. This was a fascinating and energetic discussion with Karey, where the artist talks about his origins in the 1980's New York art explosion, and how he engaged with some of the hottest artists on the scene. Some highlights are Keith Haring's mentorship and crash course art world education with Karey, Karey being constantly mistaken for Basquiat, developing his artistic style from an early age, discovering and cultivating his identity, skateboarding, living and working with neuropathy, his upcoming solo show at ShockBoxx, a discussion of having the total package as an artist, visibility in the art world, and so much more. This is a fun, engaging, and deep conversation, with so many nuggets of wisdom for any artist out there.
