It's a funny looking hand with an eye on it. It can be found everywhere and anywhere throughout the world, and is worn decoratively and protectively. But is the Hamsa something that has a basis in traditional Jewish texts?

We've all seen the red string, whether on the hands of friends and family or on the hands of celebrities like Madonna. They're everywhere - and not just inside of Israel.

But.. Does the Red String hold some sort of power, or is it just... A Myth??

It's a touchy subject but someone's gotta do it!

The subject of Shedim (roughly, demons) appears throughout Jewish history from Torah, through to the Talmud, to the present day. Here, we discuss the custom of not closing windows in the home due to the presence of demons.

Whether it be pouring Havdala wine on the lit Havdala candle, or just avoiding blowing out candles on a birthday cake, there seems to be an aversion to simply blowing out candles by mouth.
