Our final "Song of the Day"

Before introducing you to 2024's most downloaded Song of the Day, Janice Headley and Isabel Khalili share an exciting update about what's to come on this feed on Monday, April 15.

Song of the Day has brought listeners full song downloads every weekday for nearly 20 years – that's close to 5,000 songs! We appreciate you being along for the ride, and we hope you'll stick with us as we evolve the series to bring you more of what KEXP does best: music discovery with a human touch.

Next week, this feed will become "In Our Headphones." Like Song of the Day, you'll still be getting 5 new songs each week, but now you'll hear about them straight from KEXP DJs. Stay tuned for our first episode featuring Cheryl Waters.

Play full songs?

I have been a huge fan of the song of the day for years - really loved listening to a new song every morning.

I understand you want the DJs to provide more context around the songs they are picking, but I wish that in the new format you’d let them play the entire song, not just talk about the songs and play a small snippet. That way - those of us that just want to experience the new songs can still listen to them in full. With this new format, I’ll probably unsubscribe, as for me the joy was listening to music, not talking.

Nope

I was sad when KEXP got rid of the weekly new music playlist, but was still glad that I at least got a new song each day in its entirety. Now even that is gone. I want to listen to music. Uninterrupted music. I don’t care how the DJ came to like the song or how it affects them. I don’t need to hear endless conversation about how the music touched them. I just want to hear the songs. This podcast used to be great because it was a nice break from my talking podcasts. You are KEXP, not NPR (nothing against NPR, though). Just play the music. That’s what your entire station is all about. I will happily resubscribe if you go back to simply playing music.

Ruined a good thing

I’ll give it a week to bring back the old format or I’ll unsubscribe.
They could make a new podcast for the DJs to talk instead of playing music.
