How Jesus Redeems the Power of Touch | Lore Wilbert | Ep. 119

How Jesus Redeems the Power of Touch | Lore Wilbert | Ep. 119

Whether it’s fearful side hugs on one side or sexual abuse on the other, both the culture and the church aren’t doing very well with touch. Singles are staying single longer, dating is wrought with angst over purity, and marriages struggle to not interpret all forms of touch as sexual. Even the Bible seems to have endless rules about not touching things. There is simply no place where touch doesn’t seem threatened or threatening.
But a curious thing happens when Jesus comes into His ministry: He touches. Jesus touches the sick and the outcast, the bleeding and the unclean.

The 10 Commandments of Progressive Christianity | Dr. Michael Kruger | Ep. 117

The 10 Commandments of Progressive Christianity | Dr. Michael Kruger | Ep. 117

These 10 Commandments are in effect - a new Ten Commandments. What’s striking is that they are far less about God revealing his desires and far more about man expressing his own—less Moses, more Oprah.
Yet each of these commandments is partially true. Indeed, that is what makes this list, and progressive Christianity as a whole, so challenging. Half-truths can sound quite appealing until you recognize their foundations and implications.

Self Love: Settling for a Lesser Love | Brooke Tabor | Ep. 115

Self Love: Settling for a Lesser Love | Brooke Tabor | Ep. 115

    Is self-love really loving?
It's a question worth asking. And my guest Brooke Tabor and I go there in today's episode.
Our cultural moment is nothing short of consumed with this concept of loving yourself better. Self-love is the best love. Love yourself first to love others. And while we are sure the intention behind the phrase often means well, for Christians, it profoundly misses the mark of the kind of love scripture both promises us AND calls us to exhibit.

God’s Rescue Plan for a Hurting World | Laura Smith | Ep. 114

God’s Rescue Plan for a Hurting World | Laura Smith | Ep. 114

Today is a candid conversation of reflections on hope with author Laura Smith. We talk about what God is doing with COVID-19. On a micro level in our lives but also on a global scale. How He is continuing to work out His great rescue plan for humanity.
We discuss the goodness of God, how we are like the grumbling Israelites being brought  into the promise land through way of the wilderness, and how God is turning evil for good before our eyes in spite of the brokenness we see.

Self Love

When I think of self love, I don’t think of it as selfish or inky loving myself. I think of it as in from a depression stand point and coming from insecurities. As in love others, but also love yourself because if you aren’t kind to yourself you’ll be miserable and hurt yourself and lead yourself further down depression pathway. Also to know that God loves you first of all and yes, to also love God the most, before anyone else.
