In this episode of Lipstick & Lies, host Jami Rice walks co-host Melissa Moore through the case of Texas stage mom, Wanda Holloway, who went to great lengths to secure her daughter a spot on the coveted cheerleading team. When Wanda’s daughter, Shanna Harper, didn’t make the cheer squad at Alice Johnson Junior High in 1989, Wanda was seething with anger. The socialite stage mom then took steps to make certain that Shanna would be on the cheer team the following year. The steps she took, however, would turn many peoples’ lives upside down. The subsequent trial outcome wasn’t what anyone expected. This is the bizarre tale of an overzealous Texas socialite who’d carefully planned out her life and image, and nobody was going to get in the way of that …even if it meant murder.

In the premier episode of Lipstick & Lies, host Jami Rice walks co-host Melissa Moore through the Gilgo Beach Murders case from beginning to end. Jami begins her coverage with potential murder victim Shannon Gilbert’s frantic 9-1-1 call on May 1, 2010, and ends with Rex Heuermann’s July 2023 arrest for allegedly being the Long Island Serial Killer. Melissa then picks up the story from her unique perspective as she recently flew to New York to meet with Asa Ellerup, the estranged wife of Rex Heuermann. Asa gave Melissa a tour of their family home, which had already been raided by federal authorities. Melissa describes her interactions with Asa Ellerup as well as some of her observations of the home, including the now infamous “soundproof room.” By the end of this episode, you’ll understand key information and events that have transpired in this long-standing and complex murder case. You’ll also get exclusive insight from someone who has met with the alleged serial killer’s estranged wife, and been inside of their family home. Melissa’s connection to this case comes not only from meeting with Rex Huermann’s family, but also from her own personal experience being the daughter of a convicted serial killer who went by the moniker “Happy Face.”
