MTP1: COVID-19 & the Future of Travel w/ Nomadic Matt Kepnes

Millennial Travel Podcast 1: How to Travel the World on $50 a Day: Travel Cheaper, Longer, Smarter in the "New Normal".
You can find all the show notes on millennialtravelpodcast.com
Today we celebrate the launch of the Millennial Travel Podcast with Nomadic Matt Kepnes to discuss budget travel, how he contracted COVID-19, the future of the travel industry, and The Nomadic Network.
Nomadic Matt has been a nomad for over ten years and is the author of two bestselling books, How to Travel the World on $50 a Day: Third Edition: Travel Cheaper, Longer, Smarter and Ten Years a Nomad: A Traveler's Journey Home, and is the owner of one of the most popular travel blogs on the internet NomadicMatt.com.
I was happy to get an update from Matt who had recently returned from a trip to Asia and fell ill with COVID-19. Now that he made a full recovery, we spoke at length about the future of the travel industry and what we can do as travelers to support the small communities who rely on tourism for their financial well-being.
We talk about how Matt quit his job and started to make a living as a travel blogger. Matt recently launched The Nomadic Network, a global community of travel-enthusiasts who support and inspire one another to travel better, cheaper, and longer.
I also had the opportunity to discuss Matt’s charitable work at FLYTE, the Foundation for Learning & Youth Travel Education, a nonprofit organization that empowers youth living in underserved communities.
Direct support for the Millennial Travel Podcast comes from my new book--The Millennial Travel Guidebook: Escape More, Spend Less, & Make Travel a Priority in Your Life.

#179 Blue Zones & The Longevity Plant Paradox w/ Dr. Steven Gundry MD

#179 Blue Zones & The Longevity Plant Paradox w/ Dr. Steven Gundry MD

Today’s podcast is with an incredible doctor from Loma Linda University, inside one of the world’s Blue Zones, where people regularly live to over 100 years of age, Dr. Steven Gundry MD.

Dr. Gundry is the author of several books including The Plant
Paradox, The Longevity Paradox: How to Die Young at a Ripe Old Age, and the brand new Plant Paradox Family Cookbook.

He was pre-med at Yale University, has an MD from the Medical College of Georgia and started his surgical residency at the University of Michigan. He has been Professor or Surgery and Pediatrics at Loma Linda University School of Medicine since 1985.

I’ve been wanting to talk to Dr. Gundry since my popular interview with Tony Beatuner of National Geographic’s Blue Zones study.

Dr. Gundry was full of money-saving tips for eating healthy and even recommends having a drink of alcohol daily due to a cutting edge adaptation called hormesis.

It was truly a pleasure to speak with one of my favorite doctors on the planet. He is a true inspiration!

#176 How to Avoid Mold, Flame Retardants, VOCs, & Hidden Toxins w/ Building Biologist Corinne Segura

#176 How to Avoid Mold, Flame Retardants, VOCs, & Hidden Toxins w/ Building Biologist Corinne Segura

Corinne Segura is a building biologist who had extreme chemical and mold sensitivities when she first set out to build a chemical-free tiny house. The research and testing of those materials is what sparked the creation of the My Chemical Free House blog.
Corinne and I nerd out on how to avoid chemicals that are making you weak in your home, car, RV, etc.!  We want to make sure you stay as healthy as possible and eliminate things that make you weak from your environment.
We talk about some crazy stuff to avoid including:
    MOLD
Moldy Movie a great (free!) documentary by Dave Asprey What to look out for in home inspections  Cheryl Ceicko is a great resource!  Homebiotic-- a probiotic you can spray on your walls!  Corinne’s recipe for her a probiotic spray she puts on her skin. Mother Dirt the over the counter probiotic spray. Corinne recommends keeping an eye on your humidity with a simple $15 meter.
    PLASTICS
Arleen Blum is an amazing scientist who you should know!  Matt’s Reverse Osmosis water filter Corinne likes Brita filters
    FLAMETARDS
How they continue to come out of your mattress forever If you buy a used sofa, buy one built after 2015. Avoid polyurethane
    CARS
Corinne has an amazing resource on buying a chemical-free car. You can try a car hepa filter If you buy a new car, turn up the heat, and set it in the hot sun to let the chemicals come out. Buy a Honda The goal is PVC-free, withuse low-VOC adhesives, tapes, foams and coating materials
    HOMES
Pots and pans Do not buy a teflon pan! Matt owns a set of Xtrema Ceramic Cookware Paint Carpets-- look for wool.  Matt used ducttape under his carpets instead of glue.  Air filters-- consider a HEPA filter for most compounds, but if you have allergies to mold consider a Molekule.  Look for low VOC or Greenguard Gold Certification furniture.  Williams and Sonoma and Pottery Barn make reasonably priced low VOC furniture
    CLEANING PRODUCTS
Vinegar Peroxide Seventh generation or Ecos Magic Eraser Cleaning Pads Barkeeper’s Friend cleaning products

#175 Honor Your Mind, Body, & Spirit: Build your Dream Business & Life in Paradise w/ Amber Sears

#175 Honor Your Mind, Body, & Spirit: Build your Dream Business & Life in Paradise w/ Amber Sears

Amber Sears is an international pilates and yoga teacher, holistic nutritionist, former professional dancer and business coach. I’m a sun worshipping environmentalist, and planet romping entreprenuer,
She runs wellness retreats around the world, has written 800+ articles on Epicself.com, and does online business coaching with a specialty in womens business coaching.  Her new podcast Soul Powered is set to launch soon.
I’ve followed Amber since 2008 when she was living in San Francisco and I was in New York.  I reached out to her to see if she’d be interested in contributing to our newly launched website under30ceo.com.
Since then, Amber and I have followed parallel paths.  She moved down to Manuel Antonio, Costa Rica to open a wellness center, and I took her yoga class somewhere around 2013. She lived in the jungle, like I did, where she escaped the madness of life in the states, and not only worked to build a location independent business but went through an incredible spiritual transformation.
We talk a lot in the episode about her experience hosting ayahuasca retreats, and what type of inner-work you should expect, including mental, emotional, spiritual, and dietary protocols.  We also warn people against doing psychedelics for fun and finding a therapeutic setting if you feel called to do embark on this type of inner journey.
Coincidentally, she’s now living in Austin as I am, with her husband J.P. Sears, and we talk about reintegration to “real life” and how to prepare yourself if you are coming back from international travel, a yoga or meditation retreat, or psychedelic experience.
Amber says to be sure to “embody the lessons you are taught.”

Listening to Matt is different. He asks questions but he also offers his own perspectives and view based on his own experiences. You get 2 perspectives at the same time. Especially enjoyed the podcast with AJ Vaynerchuk as Matt offers a positive energy and safe environment to cover almost any topic from health to business. Matt offers great energy from a guy who clearly knows himself and wants to help others achieve their own personal journey. Much appreciated.
