Season 2: Episode 6: Rent Your Clothes with Micaela O’Herron

In this episode, Micaela O’Herron, founder of Social Closet, explains why renting the clothing we have could aid in the fashion industry’s consumption problem. Her individual consumer practices and closet inspired her to find a solution - the Social Closet. The Social Closet provides its user with an online space to lend and/or rent clothing. It’s free to join and arguably more affordable than spending money on something new. Another great feature she offers on her site is the Wardrobe Tracker. Lending to her innovative abilities as a professional software engineer, this Tracker provides a visual account to which items in your closet that you where, and how often you where them. The Social Closet could very well be the new, one-stop shopping experience. For more on Micaela, and the Social Closet, check out www.mysocialcloset.com.

Season 2: Episode 3: Textiles with Sara Wynn

Season 2: Episode 3: Textiles with Sara Wynn

In this episode, I speak with Sarah Wynn. Her experience and knowledge surrounding the textile space is broad. She provides insight into what it looks like to be a designer, see her designs “ripped” off by companies like Amazon and why the mountains of toxic textiles inspired her to change careers. She educates us on The Conscious Fashion Collective, her involvement, and what they’re doing to change the textile industry as we know it. What I loved most about speaking with Sara, was her candid approach to her beliefs on humanity. She described how “starting a loom” and “sewing” are still things that humans alone can do. She states, “our humanity is the common thread between us all”. We hope you enjoy this episode on textiles, sustainable education and human right in this space.

Season 2: Episode 2: Restyle Your Fur

In this episode, I speak with Santa Labellman, of Restyle Your Fur. She married into this family business, that has been around since 1919, formally called LaBelle, out of Florida. Learn about how the fur industry is actually one of the most sustainable industries, where and how it’s really sourced, and what they’re doing to keep it fashionable. She informs us of the importance of using every piece of each garment and how the furrier (a technical person trained in working with fur) creates one-of-a-kind pieces, among other things. She enlightens us in explaining how sustainability and the fur industry go hand in hand, and that it’s the education, or lack their of, of the consumer that needs to change. We hope you enjoy this episode on fur & sustainable fashion.
