Episode #33 Jean-Marie Jobs: Battling Perfectionism

On today’s episode, I have invited my friend and mentor Jean-Marie Jobs to talk about battling perfectionism.   Jean-Marie is a Master Trainer in Transformation and the founder of GAP Community and Yellow Marker. She is also the author of the book, The Art of Feeding Heros: Leading From The Inside Out.   We talk about the illusion of control and what happens when we try to “control” the future. We also look at the way perfectionism manifests itself and how it is the greatest enemy to transformation.    We discuss the distinction between excellence and perfectionism, the power of thought distancing, and how perfectionism is a mechanism to protect ourselves from disappointment.   If you struggle with perfectionism or know someone who does you will not want to miss this conversation.   A little bit more about Jean-Marie: Jean-Marie is a master trainer in transformational work. She founded GAP Community (a nonprofit corporation) whose vision is to equip individuals and groups to further engage the call on their lives with excitement, purpose, and responsibility through training that empowers and inspires individuals to come alive and create a lasting impact in their community. You can sign-up for a free online course on Identity, here.   She founded Yellow Marker, a corporate training company that trains teams and organizations with the vision of bringing character and values to the foreground, personally and professionally.    Take a listen!

Sex and the Single Girl...and Marrieds too! Hey! I am so glad you are here. On today's episode, I talk with Juli Slattery, my friend, and Founder of Authentic Intimacy, a ministry for sexual discipleship. We talk about Juli's book and bible study guide, "Sex and The Single Girl," and how our sexuality is a sexual battlefield! We actually talk about a WHOLE lot more than that! Whether married, single, dating, engaged.......This episode is for you! Tune in as we talk about what our sexuality teaches us about God, why the Christian purity narrative is limited, why what we do with our bodies matters, and the spiritual implications. In our conversation, we also ask the questions, "Where do we get our opinions about sexuality,?" "Who owns our sexuality," "What do we do with our sexual drives and longings as a sexual woman?"     I am thrilled you are here and hope this podcast helps you gain a deeper understanding of your sexuality and how to think through sexual issues from a biblical perspective.   A bit more about Juli: Juli earned her college degree at Wheaton College, an MA in psychology from Biola University, an MS and a Doctorate degree in Clinical Psychology from Florida Institute of Technology. From 2008-2012, Dr. Slattery served at Focus on the Family, writing, teaching, and co-hosting the Daily Focus on the Family broadcast. Episode #27 Phileena Heuertz: Deepening our experience of God through Contemplative Practice

On today's show we talk about contemplative prayer....solitude, silence and stillness, as a practice to deepen our experience with God. We will learn how contemplative practice deepens our relationship with and experience of God and is an essential practice for people who want to grow in their faith. This conversation may be new for a lot of us!  I encourage you to listen in as we talk about this practice as an invitation to awaken to God and our lives, and to see with new eyes. We will also talk about how we often numb ourselves and how our lives are filled with distractions and addictions that prevent us from what Psalm 46:10 says, "Be still and know that I am God." Being with God and not the constant going that can run our lives. On this episode, I have invited Phileena Heuertz to share insight from her book, Pilgrimage of a Soul, Contemplative Spirituality for the Active Life. In addition to being an author, Phileena’s work includes public speaking, teaching and writing on contemplative spirituality, facilitation of contemplative retreats, and spiritual direction. She holds a Masters of Christian Spirituality from Creighton University’s department of theology and is a certified spiritual director in the Ignatian contemplative evocative method. She and her husband Chris founded Gravity in 2012 to make contemplative practice accessible to individuals, communities and organizations. You can purchase Phileena's book on Amazon.
