LOST: DOWN THE HATCH, it’s hosted by Josh Wigler and Mike Bloom, and its a weekly spoiler-filled rewatch of ABC’s LOST

LOST: Down the Hatch | Season 2, Episode 9: “What Kate Did”

Josh Wigler (@roundhoward) and Mike Bloom (@AMikeBloomType) get on their high horses to judge “What Kate Did.”

In “What Kate Did,” the audience finally learns what Kate did! SHE VOTED OUT HER MOM! Sorry, read that wrong, SHE EXPLODED HER DAD! Also, she sees a horse on the island, and Josh and Mike can’t get enough of the horse. All that and much more in a typically ridiculous installment of the DOWN THE HATCH podcast.

    About Down the Hatch …

LOST: Down the Hatch is a full-tilt spoiler-filled rewatch of LOST. Every week, Josh and Mike break down an episode of LOST with the benefit of knowing the series’ full trajectory, using the following structure as a guide:

    * We Go “Fourth” – Josh and Mike begin each podcast with a deep-dive into the story both in front of and behind the camera, and they do so with the assistance of…

    * 8 Sounds – The events of LOST pop right off the camera and straight into your ears with eight memorable moments replayed on the podcast, helping us guide through the story;

    * 15/16 Others – Josh and Mike answer questions and comments sent their way through the official e-mail address: downthehatch@postshowrecaps.com

    * 23 Points – Each week, Josh and Mike hand out points for the best and worst characters of the episode in question, in a foolhardy attempt to determine the most and least valuable players in the LOST pantheon.

    * 4.2 Stars – Josh and Mike will attempt to create an official Down the Hatch ranking of every episode of LOST, by rating them all on a scale from 0 – 4.2. Josh and Mike will offer their individual scores, listeners’ scores will be averaged as a third data point, then the three points will be combined for the podcast’s official score on each episode.

Each episode of Down the Hatch clocks in at no less than 108 minutes. If the podcast falls short of that runtime, Josh and Mike have triggered a crisis! Consequences may (and almost certainly will) ensue thanks to the Frozen Donkey Wheel.

LOST: Down the Hatch | Tales from the Island, Episode 2: “The Other Other 48 Days”

Josh Wigler (@roundhoward) and Mike Bloom (@AMikeBloomType) resume their roles of Billy Wallace and Rodney Cesteau, two background Oceanic 815 survivors (not to mention murderous narcissists) in the second episode of LOST Down the Hatch Presents: Tales From The Island, “The Other Other 48 Days.”

Over the course of Down the Hatch, Josh and Mike will periodically transform the podcast into a full-on tabletop roleplaying game, ala Dungeons and Dragons. The mystical and mysterious R Filly (@Wharfrat1625) joins them in the role of dungeon master, presiding over Josh and Mike’s myriad misadventures and playing the roles of various non-playable characters in this full-on fan-fiction flurry of events from LOST.

In “The Other Other 48 Days,” Rich guides Josh’s Billy and Mike’s Rodney through more than a month’s worth of events from the island, as the Bulk and Skull of LOST link up with new pals, make new enemies, play golf, and casually murder a couple of folks. Good times! It’s yet another fully ridiculous installment of Post Show Recaps Theater, which — it bears noting — is outright fan fiction, and probably not for everyone. If it’s not your cup of tea, move right along to the next recap episode! If you’re a fan, however, Josh, Mike and Rich will resume Tales from the Island at an unknown point in the future. As always, send feedback to downthehatch@postshowrecaps.com.

LOST: Down the Hatch | Season 2, Episode 8: “Collision”

Josh Wigler (@roundhoward) and Mike Bloom (@AMikeBloomType) are coming out of their respective hatches for a look back on Michelle Rodriguez’s Ana-Lucia Cortez.

In their recap of season two’s eighth episode, “Collision,” Josh and Mike recount the tragic tale of Ana-Lucia — tragic, at least, depending on your outlook. Hard to feel too bad for the former police officer when she’s holding Sayid Jarrah (Naveen Andrews) and so many others hostage in the middle of the jungle. But Josh and Mike do their level best to get inside of Ana’s psyche, all while stopping for a few quick rounds of island golf.

“Collision” was directed by Stephen Williams and written by Javier Grillo-Marxuach and Leonard Dick. It originally aired on November 23, 2005.

LOST: Down the Hatch | Season 2, Episode 7: “The Other 48 Days”

Josh Wigler (@roundhoward) and Mike Bloom (@AMikeBloomType) trek across time and space as they go back to the beginning with “The Other 48 Days.”

In their recap of season two’s seventh episode, Josh and Mike dive into the lives of Ana-Lucia (Michelle Rodriguez), Mr. Eko (Adewale Akinnuoye-Agbaje), Libby (Cynthia Watros) and the rest, as they and the other “Tailies” struggle to survive on the opposite side of the island. Josh and Mike talk about the events of the Tailies’ journey as it compares to the events of the main 815ers. Plus, is this the worst ending in LOST history? Let’s discuss!

“The Other 48 Days” was directed by Eric Laneuville and written by Damon Lindelof and Carlton Cuse. It originally aired on November 16, 2005.

Josh Wigler (@roundhoward) and Mike Bloom (@AMikeBloomType) are thirsty dog, and the only cure is an ill-fated trek through the rainy jungle.

In their recap of “Abandoned,” Josh and Mike take one last opportunity to say goodbye to a series regular: Shannon Rutherford (Maggie Grace), killed off in her first and only flashback episode. Does the episode succeed in its mission to show new sides of Shannon, or is it too little too late? Josh and Mike weigh in on all of that and more.

“Abandoned” was directed by Adam Davidson and written by Elizabeth Sarnoff. It originally aired on October 19, 2005.

Josh Wigler (@roundhoward) and Mike Bloom (@AMikeBloomType) are strapping boomerangs to their walking sticks, which can only mean one thing: field hockey time.

One supposes it could also mean Josh and Mike are finally trekking into the jungle to talk about “…And Found,” the fifth season two episode and the first of the lot to focus on Jin and Sun (Daniel Dae Kim and Yunjin Kim). Josh and Mike give their takes on the love story seeded throughout the flashbacks, as well as offer up some thoughts on the first episode to truly sink its teeth into the mysterious Mr. Eko (Adewale Akinnuoye-Agbaje).

Satisfied Listener1 ,

I guess they don’t want me listening, so I won’t.

Heard a lot of good things about this podcast so wanted to give it a listen. Just a few minutes into the first episode, they made an obviously politically charged comment and one of the hosts basically said that if you don’t think like they do politically, they don’t want us to be a part of what they are doing. So, as requested, I’ve unsubscribed and won’t be listening. Thankfully, there are other very good Lost podcasts out there that seem to appreciate their listeners a bit more.

It’s really sad that this is the world we live in, where I can’t feel welcome to listen to a podcast about a shared love of Lost because I happen to think different politically.

TheRealMP ,

They found their groove

Once Mike and Josh ditched the 108 minute limit, the podcast got so much better. I love all the details they talk about and they know so much.

CTC1181 ,

Jack Impersonation

Please STOP with the Jack voice. I cringe every time. Maybe don't throw stones in a glass house because your normal voice is a lot more whiny. Also there is one rap song in Lost and you relentlessly make fun of it. Racist much?
