Special Replay: Episode 19- Murdered in North Carolina: The story of Mary Collins

This week is the three year anniversary of Mary's torture and murder. Her family is still fighting for justice. Please relisten to this special episode, near and dear to our hearts.

This podcast was founded on the need to bring a voice to those who are not able to speak for themselves- Stories of the voiceless is our tagline. That’s never been more true than for the vulnerable population of people with disabilities. According to disabilityjustice.org “While each situation is unique, most violent crimes occur because people with disabilities are viewed as ‘easy targets’ due to an assumption that they are less capable of defending themselves physically. People with developmental disabilities are at particular risk because their cognitive abilities and social skills may be compromised, making them more susceptible to predators.” Tonight we invite you to join one family’s quest for justice and change in the name of their loved one, brutally murdered by people pretending to care for her. This is the case of Mary Santina Collins. Listener discretion is advised.

    30. Murdered in Illinois: The Case of Kevin Clewer

    30. Murdered in Illinois: The Case of Kevin Clewer

Pride month is coming to a close, so as a straight person I asked a couple of friends what Pride means to them. One told me “In my opinion: Pride is the reminder that at the center of what is most precious to us is the will to protect it.”
Tonight we’re going to dive into two very different stories involving unsolved murders of gay men in an effort to shine some light on one of the the true dangers of homophobia: dehumanization. This is a tale of two cities, this is a tale of two Kevins. These are the cases of Kevin Fret and Kevin Clewer. Listener discretion is advised.
Investigators are asking for help with evidence about the suspect known as Fernando for the murder of Kevin Clewer. They believe the suspect was NOT actually named Fernando and most likely only used that name as a ruse when he met Kevin that night. The suspect is of Puerto Rican descent and he fled to Puerto Rico after the murder, though he has returned back and forth to Chicago sometimes. This suspect was a member of the gay community in Chicago at the time. He was known for theft and prostitution. They believe the suspect has bragged to his friends about luring intoxicated men back to their apartments for sex and then robbing them. They believe aside from the murder, this is an established pattern of behavior. t’s also believed that people who know him would be absolutely shocked to find he was responsible for stabbing Kevin Clewer 40 times, that it doesn’t fit his outward display of his appearance or personality at all. Please call the Chicago police department if this sounds like anyone you know, even if you’re not sure.

    29. Trans Awareness: Nikki Kuhnhausen & Julie Doe

Join Jamie and Amelia this week as they talk about the importance of Trans Awareness and the cases of Nikki Kuhnhausen of Washington and "Julie Doe" of Clermont, FL.

In honor of Nikki Kuhnhausen and House Bill 1687 Known as the Nikki Kuhnhausen Act visit LGBTQBar.org to see where your state stacks up on the LGBTQ+ Panic defense, then call your local government and get involved.

Please check out our website and see if any of the photos of Julie Doe look like someone you knew prior to 1988. Share the images, especially if you have a long standing family in southern Florida- ask them to share it as well.

The Trans Doe Task Force finds and researches cases of LGBTQ+ missing and murdered persons, especially focusing on unidentified individuals who may have been transgender. TDTF advises and educates the public, media, and forensic professionals about the needs of and differences between Trans Doe cases and other Doe cases. The TDTF can also assist law enforcement departments, medical examiners, and forensic anthropologists with getting their cases worked on by forensic genetic genealogists and has a Trans-led forensic genetic genealogy team in house. Check them out at https://transdoetaskforce.org/

28: Murdered in California: The Case of The Doodler Killer

28: Murdered in California: The Case of The Doodler Killer

Imagine a fun night out in a trendy gay bar in San Francisco in 1974. You feel a freedom to be yourself in a place where you belong, surrounded by others who understand and support you. Then a handsome stranger approaches you and introduces himself as a cartoonist. He says he’s noticed you from across the room and hands you a little portrait he made of you on a napkin. You’re swooned, and you enjoy some drinks and dancing with your new friend before he finally convinces you to go somewhere more private. It’s not until your body is found buried in the brush that you realize you’ve come to lovers lane with a serial killer. This is the case of the unsolved murders of Gerald Cavanaugh, Joseph Jae Stevens, Klaus Christmann, Frederick Capin, Harald Gullberg, Warren Andrews, and the other unnamed victims of The Doodler Killer. Listener discretion is advised.

Investigators believe that the killer may still be living as an openly gay man in the San Fransisco Bay Area, never having faced justice. Please take a look at and distribute the updated aged sketch. Anyone with information on this case or with possible leads can contact Homocide cold case investigator Daniel Cunningham at 1-415-553-9515 or email him at daniel.cunningham@sfgov.org. If you with to remain anonymous you may call SFPD Tip Line at 1-415-575-4444 or Text-A-Tip to 847411

Missing

I like their case presentation and how important it is to the hosts to be respectful regarding the victims and the families.
I hope the hosts continue with this podcast.

Just no.

Took almost 30 minutes to actually get to the topic of the episode, & then it’s told in an overly dramatic, obnoxious way. I couldn’t get through even one episode. The chit chat isn’t interesting in any way, & adding in the personal opinions only makes the lack of intelligence clear. Don’t waste your time.

Kyoostar1 ,

Excellent!

I’ve only just discovered this podcast. But I notice that March 2023 is the most recent episode. Are we to assume they’ve stopped? One suggestion I have is to say when you are breaking for ads. Say - and we will be right back. - rather than it just going to ads in the middle of a sentence and picks up with the next word of the sentence. I realize this is not professional, but that would help. Otherwise enjoyable to listen to. Well researched, excellent rapport.
