This weeks episode is very dear to me because it features two incredible new yorkers who have played an important role in my New York experience. Matt and Allison Sprouse were the onsite coordinators when I spent a semester studying and interning in New York in college. They were quite literally some of the first friendly faces I saw when I moved into what would be my first New York apartment. Aside from courageously taking 20 college kids under their wing, Matt is the Managing partner and Executive Producer at York and Wilder Studios and Allison has done everything from real estate to PR to helping raise their two amazing children.

Matt and Allison have been so generous with their time and knowledge to me over the past several months and I am so grateful to them for coming on the show!

Welcome back to Make It There! I think you will really enjoy this episode where I interview Kyle McKenzie, a Coordinating Producer at ABC News Live. Kyle was my first boss at ABC when I was an intern and he quickly became an incredible friend and mentor to me. Kyle’s career has been long and full of some amazing jobs including time at This Week with George Stephanopolous, A lead runner for NBC News at the 2012 Democratic National Convention, and the Today Show.

Kyle didn't have the most traditional path into working in news and I think that is what makes him so incredible at his job. His love of theatre production keeps him quick while maintaining an impeccable attention to detail. When shit hits the fan, Kyle is the one you want in the room.

The first episode of Make It There has arrived! In this episode, I catch up with an old college friend Marissa Avnaim. Marissa is an award-winning journalist who moved to New York in 2021 to work for NBC News. Her career has been packed with incredible highlights such as time working on Late Night with Seth Meyers, The Today Show, Morning Joe and so much more! Marissa and I first met when we worked on our college's newscast together where she was the best reporter and anchor that I had the pleasure of producing. In her last year of college Marissa was the lead writer on a documentary that I created, How Did We Get Here? Nashville Surviving 2020. 

In this episode, Marissa and I talk about balancing a demanding career as journalists with the social lives of two girls in their twenties. Although it can be tough to manage sometimes, Marissa does it all with a grace and confidence that inspires me daily.
