How blind runner Chaz Davis set an American Record, Making It: An AfterShokz Podcast Series by BibRave Episode 1 The BibRave Podcast

    • Fitness

Today we bring you the first in a series of special edition podcasts we’ve created with our friends at AfterShokz - the unrivaled maker of bone conduction headphones. The series is called Making It and explores the pathways, trials, and tribulations of a variety of athletes as they try to “make it” at the highest levels of their sport.
Episode One features blind Paralympic runner Chaz Davis – a high-performing college track athlete who was really starting to hit his stride before everything changed. He was suddenly struck with an ailment known as Leber Hereditary Optic Neuropathy – a common mitochondrial disorder that robbed him of his sight.
Listen to the episode to hear how Chaz overcame his initial heartbreak at the diagnosis, his destructive behavior to follow, and how he regained his motivation to run and become a member of the U.S. Paralympic Team. Chaz is now preparing to earn a spot in the 2020 Paralympic Marathon in Tokyo, and we get into what it’ll take to get there!
We hope that you're as inspired by Chaz' story as we are and that you can approach your next run or challenge with a bit of gratitude and a renewed sense of purpose. We’re all going to experience setbacks in life and in running, and here’s to learning from Chaz’ incredible story of “making it!"
For a deeper dive into our premiere episode of Making It and to learn more about Chaz, check out our show notes. You can also find us on Facebook, Twitter, and Instagram. And, if you enjoyed this episode we would love it if you could leave us a review on iTunes!
