In this week's podcast, we sat down with Carpenter and founder of the Human Connection Project, Matt Boyce. Boycie made the move over to Brisbane from Perth in his late teens chasing a professional football dream. However, Instead of an NRL contract, Boycie found himself a best mate, Justin, who very quickly became like a brother. Over the course of five years, the pair forged incredibly strong mateship. However, a tragic surf trip accident led to Justin sustaining a head injury that ended his life. This tragedy was the catalyst taking Boycie into an emotional decline, battling grief and depression at the same time. In the two years following, Boycie realised just how important having solid and genuine human connection was to his state of mind and how desperately he was missing it in his own life.
Boycie recognised through his own mental health struggles that Australians are spending increasingly less time connecting with one another which is gravely impacting our mental health. As we have become busier and more digitally connected than ever, we have become the most socially disconnected generation in human history. The act of connecting and enjoying a conversation with family, friends and acquaintances has become somewhat of a lost art. The Human Connection Project exists for one simple reason, to bring back the art of connection.
