“A constant fire shall be kept burning on the altar; it must not be extinguished.” The altar corresponds to a person’s heart. Our observance of the mitzvos and study of the Torah must be fired with excitement.

We share an interactive relationship with G-d. The fire we generate within our hearts elicits Divine fire, as our Sages imply in their teaching, “Even though fire would descend [on the altar] from Above, it is [still] a mitzvah to bring ordinary fire.” The energy we invest in our Divine service calls forth Divine energy that vitalizes every element of our lives.
