Guest: Mary Sarah Fairweather Vice President of Sheltering

The DDFL has been experiencing influx of animals in their care, and this is especially evident in our dog population.  It has been the highest in the last two years then they have seen in the past.  The increasingly cost of living and the shortage of pet friendly and affordable housing poses challenges on our communities, forcing many to have to make difficult decisions when it comes to their pets.  There is also a nationwide veterinary shortages leading to decreased access to and increased cost of veterinary care.  if you're considering adoption, go in and talk to the DDFL, their adoption process is all conversation based.  They also recommend looking at their website and see what kind of a pet you are looking for.  Coming up on August 17th is Talke of Hope and it will be at Stockyards Event Center in Denver.

Mile High Magazine 07/21/2024 Clinica Colorado

    Guest: Devra Fregin Executive Director

Clinica Colorado mission is to serve as a medical home for the underserved and we primarily see uninsured Spanish speaking patients.  The patients they see have extremely limited resources and extensive needs.  HealthEquity means everyone has the right to access the high quality, affordable person-centered care ideally provided in their native language and with respect to their personal, familial and cultural beliefs. Unfortunately, there is a lack of equity and primary care and that leads to an increase in health disparities.  Cancer effects everyone but not equally.  In Colorado, there's high evidence that there are some severe disparities in colorectal cancer, meaning certain populations are impacted more than others.  Clinica Colorado helps with more than just colorectal cancer, they can help people with diabetes, pregnancies, and even general health care.

Is cutting off your family good therapy?  If you're looking back at your family system and saying, there's definitely some things my parents did or my family did that was not great and it had an impact on me, it is ok to do a detox for maybe a certain amount of time to gather your thoughts.  Part of the therapeutic process of recovering from your past traumas, your childhood issues and walking through your emotional state of where you are today is looking back and seeing were the issues came from.  Another part of the therapeutic process is learning how to stand up for yourself, take care of yourself and set the boundaries.

    Guest: Ilan Gutin PlatteForum Curator

PlatteForum has been around for about 22 years, they are a local arts nonprofit that connects youth around the Denver metro area with professional artists. They give the youth the resources to reach their full potential as artists while addressing social justice issues that matter most to the students, the interns and their communities.  They also have an artists in residence program, where the artists work once a week with the art lab interns and get to work on a bunch of different projects.  The youth in the program are in high school and normally go to a title one school.  They not only get paid to participate, they also get high school credit.  The current resident artist, is Lexi Hotai, she's an artist based out of New Orleans.  Her show is opening up on Friday, July 26, from 6:00 PM to 8:00 PM, and then she's also having an artist talk on July 30th at 6:00 PM.  PlatteForum is also hosting their first Arts and Community event.  It will be a block style party that will have a bunch on non-profits and 25 artist vendors.  The event will be on August 4th from 2:00 PM to 6:00 PM at Curtis Park.
