Welcome back to the Men of Valor podcast. The verse for today is from 2 Timothy chapter 1, verse 9. And it states, “He has saved us and called us to a holy life - not because of anything we have done but because of His own purpose and grace. This grace was given us in Christ Jesus before the beginning of time,...”

Any day now, the local fire truck will drive by our houses with Santa Claus announcing that Christmas is coming. When you look closely at the truck, the red paint, and all the chrome, and the tires shine as if they're brand new. Sometimes in the parades, the shining trucks even have people throwing candy for the parade spectators, with the fire sirens blaring or playing Christmas music as they go by. They absolutely look great and cause excitement as they buzz by. But in a short time, everyone goes on with their day and quickly forget about that truck passing by.

But the real question is this: What purpose were the fire trucks created to perform? Was the purpose to look good, impress people and carry Santa Claus? Or...is the real purpose that they were created for to save lives? If you were ever in a fire, and you were rescued or your house saved, I believe you would think about that event every time you saw a fire truck.

In many ways, the fire truck is sort of like the church. Many churches have become places that have beautiful buildings. Some churches get people excited, but in a short time, many people go back to their lives and forget by Sunday night what even happened on Sunday morning at the service. And some churches have become social gatherings. Or some are places that people feel required to go to every Sunday so they get that checkmark on their imagined behavioral report card that God has.

"The church was created to continue to do the work the Lord Jesus did...Save dead, sinful men from going to hell!" But the question is: What purpose was the church created for? The church was created to continue to do the work the Lord Jesus did when He was on Earth! That work? Save dead, sinful men from going to hell! It was created to do the same work Jesus instructs His disciples to do in Matthew chapter 28, verse 19 and 20. “...Go, make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the Name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit, and teach them to obey everything I have commanded.” And in Matthew 10:8, Jesus tells His disciples, “Go! Heal the sick, raise the dead, cleanse those who have leprosy, drive out demons. Freely you have received; freely give.”

Hmmm...Get people saved from going to hell? Get people healed? Teach obedience to the Word of God? And cast out demons through the power of the Holy Spirit? Wow! That sure doesn't sound like most churches I've ever experienced in my life!

"The true church is...a family of individuals with different giftings that God uses to be His hands on earth..." You know the true church is the pillar and foundation of the truth of God. The true church is not a building. It's a family of individuals with different giftings that God uses to be His hands on earth - to set the captives free of the bondage of sin and darkness that is so prevalent in this world.

    A Word of Life – EP88 (Mark 15:37-38)

    A Word of Life – EP88 (Mark 15:37-38)

    Mark 15:37-38

With a loud cry, Jesus breathed his last. The curtain of the temple was torn in two from top to bottom.About TaniaTania Landwehrle and her husband, Roland, have three children - a teenage son named Kyle and two young daughters, Taylor and Ryann. There is never a dull moment in the Landwehrle family, as each of their children is unique in age and in personality, and they are confident in their love for Jesus.Tania's Full BioMoms for Christ Hi everyone. It's Tania and welcome to the Moms for Christ podcast. A Word that the Lord has been speaking to me comes from Mark chapter 15 verses 37 to 38 and it says, “With a loud cry, Jesus breathed his last. The curtain of the temple was torn in two from top to bottom.”

"As we move with Him, He feeds us His Word, filling us with life. " The other day, the girls and I went to the park. In the park, they have bird blinds where you can observe birds without disturbing them. We had the pleasure of watching a white crane. This bird was beautiful. As we watched, I asked my girls to stop talking and just sit quietly for a moment. As we watched this bird, I noticed for several minutes, he sat quietly as well, listening, watching, waiting and then boom! He made his move, catching his morning meal.

God began to speak to me. He was showing me how we are called to be just like that crane, listening, waiting, and watching so we know how to move. As we move with Him, He feeds us His Word, filling us with life. God speaks and His Word is the bread of life.

When we move according to our own ways, we starve spiritually. In this verse it says, “With a loud cry, Jesus breathed his last…” We know from the book of John chapter 19 verse 30 Jesus spoke a Word and that Word is, “It is finished.” Everything had been fulfilled so that you and I can be free, no longer bound by the old covenant but coming into a new covenant with God.

"God spoke and it changed everything for me in that moment, giving me peace or direction, filling me with life." When that curtain tore from top to bottom, it signified the tearing of the old covenant and the beginning of a whole new covenant. Jesus being the High Priest going into the Holy Place, atoning for our sins. His blood covering us, not the blood of goats and lambs, which can never atone for our sins but His perfect blood that cleanses us from unrighteousness. When that curtain tore in two, it broke the separation between man and God, allowing us to hear and speak to Him, no longer separated. Jesus' words signify the fulfillment of everything He had come to accomplish because His Word is a Word of power.

It's the power to completely transform our lives. He speaks and we move with Him. I can personally testify of times in my life when I was alone or scared, not knowing what to do and God spoke and it changed everything for me in that moment, giving me peace or direction, filling me with life. I am praying that our children will come into that same relationship with the Lord, no matter the circumstance, stopping and listening so that they would be given a Word of life.

Thank You Lord that You still speak. That You are speaking even now. Thank You for the mighty work that You have done on the cross. Thank You Lord that You have loved us and that You have come Lord to break the old way of doing things. Thank You that Your Word brings life to us. God bless and have a wonderful week. I will speak to you again soon!

    No Other King – EP87 (1Sam. 8:4-5)

    No Other King – EP87 (1Sam. 8:4-5)

    1 Samuel 8:4-5

So all the elders of Israel gathered together and came to Samuel at Ramah. They said to him, “You are old, and your sons do not follow your ways; now appoint a king to lead us, such as all the other nations have.”About TaniaTania Landwehrle and her husband, Roland, have three children - a teenage son named Kyle and two young daughters, Taylor and Ryann. There is never a dull moment in the Landwehrle family, as each of their children is unique in age and in personality, and they are confident in their love for Jesus.Tania's Full BioMoms for ChristHi everyone. It's Tania and welcome to the Moms for Christ podcast. The Word for today comes from 1 Samuel, chapter 8, verses 4 to 5 and it says, “So all the elders of Israel gathered together and came to Samuel at Ramah. They said to him, ‘You are old and your sons do not follow your ways; now appoint a king to lead us, such as all the other nations have.’”

"The people of Israel wanted to do what the world was doing because they thought it would be easier." During this time the Israelites were led by God. God appointed prophets and judges to speak to and to lead the people. The Israelites came to Samuel, the prophet at the time, asking for a king - just like all the other nations. They wanted a king because Samuel’s sons were not properly following the Lord. The nation of Israel is a nation set apart from everyone else - a holy nation. Yet their desire was to be like everyone else. The nation of Israel wanted a king that they could see and hear to lead them.

"It's the Lord who knows what is right for you…who loves you and desires to lead you in His righteousness." As a parent, we can all say we've heard it - I can also admit I have either said it or thought it - “Everyone else is doing it. I want to do what everyone else is doing.” Maybe you've never said it, but every time you do something on your own, that is exactly what you say to the Lord. “No, I don't want You to be my King. I'm going to be like everyone else.”

"We are a people set apart. No longer walking in our own ways, which is darkness, but in His wonderful light." The people of Israel wanted to do what the world was doing because they thought it would be easier. The same is true sometimes for us, or even our children - waiting on the Lord instead of just moving seems silly. It's the Lord who knows what is right for you. It's the Lord who loves you and desires to lead you in His righteousness. As a parent or a friend, you may have some experience in the situation. You know the mistakes, and over time you have learned the best way to do it. Naturally, your desire would be to teach your children or your friend the right way to do it. Sometimes it's not the same way everyone else is doing it, but it's the right way.

It's the same with the Lord. His desire is to teach us the right way to live our lives. For the Christian, God has called us, just like the Jews. In 1 Peter, chapter 2, verse 9, it says, “But you are chosen people, a royal priesthood, a holy nation, God's special possession, that you may declare the praises of Him who called you out of darkness into His wonderful light.” We are a people set apart. No longer walking in our own ways, which is darkness, but in His wonderful light.

Lord, thank You for Your wonderful light. I pray that when our heart desires to do things like everyone else, we would remember who we are. I pray that we would remember Your love and choose to walk in Your wonderful light, desiring You to be our only King. Amen. God bless and have a wonderful week. I will speak to you again soon.

    Valuing Your Inheritance – EP86 (Gen. 25:32-33)

    Valuing Your Inheritance – EP86 (Gen. 25:32-33)

Genesis 25:32-33“Look, I am about to die,” Esau said. “What good is the birthright to me?” But Jacob said, “Swear to me first.” So he swore an oath to him, selling his birthright to Jacob.About TaniaTania Landwehrle and her husband, Roland, have three children - a teenage son named Kyle and two young daughters, Taylor and Ryann. There is never a dull moment in the Landwehrle family, as each of their children is unique in age and in personality, and they are confident in their love for Jesus.Tania's Full BioMoms for ChristHi everyone. It's Tania and welcome to the Moms for Christ podcast. A Word that I’ve thought about for some time comes from Genesis chapter 25 verses 32 to 33. And it says, “‘Look, [I’m] about to die,’ Esau said. ‘What good is the birthright to me?’ But Jacob said, ‘Swear to me first.’ So he swore an oath to him, selling his birthright to Jacob.”

This story takes place between twin brothers Jacob and Esau - Esau being the firstborn, therefore being the one entitled to the birthright. After an exhausting time in the field, Esau, smelling the aroma of the stew his brother was making, asked his brother Jacob for some. Jacob refused to give Esau some of his stew unless Esau agreed to sell his birthright.

I remember the first time I read this story, it didn't make sense. Selling your birthright for soup? During that time period a birthright was a big deal. Having a birthright meant that after your father passes away, you will take over as head of the family. You receive double the inheritance. It is also said according to Jewish tradition, the firstborn offered sacrifices before the tabernacle was set up.

"...how many times have I looked at my own temporary needs instead of looking at the things that are eternal?" When I look at the lasting prestige and honor given to the firstborn, it's hard to imagine giving all of that up - for a temporary bowl of soup? I have to stop and ask, how many times have I looked at my own temporary needs instead of looking at the things that are eternal? What would have happened if Esau valued his inheritance above his physical needs?

Unfortunately there are places in my life where I’ve put my physical needs above my spiritual needs. The times in my life when God was telling me to do something, instead I chose to do what was comfortable - when I do this I give my comfort value above God's commands - selling my inheritance to His Kingdom.

My kids are always trading their candy. Kyle does not like chocolate, but he does like gummy candy. My girls like all candy, but they love chocolate. The girls are always willing to trade their gummies for Kyle's chocolate. On the other hand, if I came over looking to trade my delicious Brussels sprouts for some of their chocolate, I wouldn't have a deal. My girls wouldn’t trade their chocolate for Brussels sprouts because for them, that chocolate is valuable. They are not willing to give it up for something of lesser, or in some cases, no value.

"The value of being in God's Kingdom is greater than anything this life has to offer." Chocolate can never compare to the rich inheritance God has given us. I want my kids to hold tight to the gift God has given us in giving us His Son. God calls us to be children in His Kingdom. In Galatians chapter 4 verse 7 it says, “So you are no longer a slave, but God's child; and since you are His child, God has made you also an heir.” The value of being in God's Kingdom is greater than anything this life has to offer.

Lord, thank You for Your amazing grace in our lives. Thank You for calling us to Your wonderful Kingdom.
